Could someone post the history of the hardtops? What was/is available and what is considered preferred? I hear names like TGF , metalcrafters, real rod. It would be greatly appreciated. |

TGF Metalcrafters made the original hardtop... They also built the Prowler concept car for Chrysler... I believe the prowler store ( not affiliated with this site ) were developing a knock off of the TGF design... |

from my memory... ...TGF Metalcrafters in Ca. made the tops, there is a Gen 1 and a Gen II(most common)...the tops came painted unless specified otherwise and were packed in giant wooden crates that could have withstood a nuclear blast ...I purchased 2 new Gen II tops from Real Rod Bob, he was a distributor for TGF products for a short while...I also received one of the last TGF tops from TGF in primer for my Tangelo Kat ...TGF Metalcrafters built concept cars for Chrysler, Prowler, Atlantic, Challenger etc ...TGF also made grills and side panels(on my Kandi Kat) and probably a few other products I don't remember anymore

My hard top from MetalCrafters was the best money I ever spent for my Prowler...I almost NEVER take it off the car. Totally different car in my opinion when you drive with it on. Much quieter inside. Glad I bought it when I did! |

Members of this site use to organize group purchases of TGF hardtops if there were 10 or so interested individuals. It's been a while since there was a group purchase. Perhaps TGF would make another batch of them??? Who can find out? |

I organized a couple then Mike Williams did a couple.. he has had the most recent contact with TGF on the subject... I'm pretty sure they won't make anymore tops... Mike may know more about this |

Always liked the hardtop and got one on my second Kat. A few years back this is what I wanted. Not many fans of the bubble top, but I liked it. http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum10/HTML/000084.html

TGF and Metalcrafters the same company and produced the hardtops. Bob Goetz (Realrod) sold them as a rep for TGF for a while but never produced any himself. |

Some on here have posted in the past that they purchased a hardtop from them. As I recall quality did not compare to TGF. A search may find some of those posts. |

TGF is out of the hardtop business. I sent an email to Nani Harvey and they are no longer manufacturing them. I also asked about the molds, latches, gaskets and pins; they are gone!!! Sorry that I am just now responding; however, I have not been on POA in quite awhile. |

We have gone on trips with the hardtop and then put the hardtop in the hotel room for the week. It is a lot quieter ride with the hardtop and changes the looks of the car but does take away from the open air feel. I haven't used the hardtop for several years actually but I am still glad I have it. |

I found and brought a used black TGF one a few months ago. Have not used it yet but the plan is for track days, where they will let me run with out a soft top, longer trips and for looks going for a red on black theme. Very good quality. Top down is the way to go though for nice days. |
