I went to the local Chrysler dealership to get a bottle of touch-up paint/PY3 for my 02 Yellow Prowler and it looked more beige than yellow. I also went by two local body shops and they could not figure it out either. PY3 is the correct paint code that is on my driver's door. Why does this not match? Is there something about the paint code that I am not seeing? The car is all original with never having any paint work.

Yellow Prowler touch up paint has been discontinued, which means it is no longer available, so you didn't buy what you just bought.

Sorry, but you just wasted your money. None of the touch up paints (from what I've heard) match the cars very well. A good body shop should be able to mix you up a small can.

touchup paint,no matter how close it is when brushed on vs.sprayed will not be a exact match, because of the type of application, there is a difference between spraying and using a brush.it will be close but not perfect, and being yellow,is one of the hardest colors to match.

So what you are saying then is that artistic application changes the color to not match. Makes sense to me.

Catfish has a good eye for color .. I posted some pics. of my Orange prowler side panles.. I knew they were off and he brought it to my attention , and my problem was what the Paint store sold me the wrong base coat .. I have repainted them and they are much better now and mach .The base coat is very important and is not all the same On the Prowler Colors ....

A good eye for color is one thing. But to say once you have a paint that matches, suddenly it changes color to non-matching paint because of how you apply it. brushing matching paint on might look crappy, but it doesn't change the color of the matching paint. Spraying matching paint on might look better, but if done poorly wouldn't suddenly change the color of the matching paint just because of the way you put it on. It's the crappier job done putting it on that makes it stick out as looking bad, but it doesn't change the color of the matching paint at all.

idive you dont understand it,why not ask don ward, maybe he can enlighten you,the paint doesnt change color, thats impossible.its how its applied.since youre the paint expert, tell me why on new cars the frt.and rr bumpers,do not match the paint on the panel next to it.how come you can use the exact same paint and spray both panels, lets say a rear bumper cover and a 1/4 panel and they dont match.
