I think the few that had increase called and had it reduced they said it was a mistake. It's worth a phone call. |

They asked me to justfy the stated value amount since it was more than the blue book value. I gave them a list of the mods that made it well past the insured amount. The underwriter tried to increase the premimum stating the car was "modified". After I complained they reversed the decsion and told me the car would be considered "modified" with a different engine and not with aftermarket additions, paint and chrome etc. |

I believe the major difference in the increase in premium is due to the geographical area because some of the Texas Prowlers has said they did not see the increase that I did. |

We've had Barrett Jackson for 3 yrs and the premium has remained the same the entire time. $296/year with values at $40K on the cat and $5K for the trailer. We do not have any other vehicle insured with them. It would be worth a call to inquire as to their reasoning for such an increase. Keep us posted. |

There are other factors that come into play with insurance and your premium....You actually have an "insurance score" which is much like your credit score. Do you think your car insurance and your credit score have nothing to do with each other? Wrong! Your credit score (which can be low even with a perfect pay record) or even simply calling your insurance agent to "inquire" about a possible claim can affect a report that insurance companies call a CLUE Report..... This might answer some questions. Good afternoon Mr. Wood, I am responding on behalf of Emily with regards to the rate change with Chartis. Chartis (the underwriting company) has made some rate adjustments to single car, late model, and exotic policies. Although they have taken a rate increase on these types of vehicles, we find that they are still more competitive than Hagerty or American Modern. None of the vehicles we insure for you are considered late model or exotic. Your premium should remain the same at renewal. This is based on both the type of vehicles as well as the total collection size. Please feel free to give me a call and I would be happy to discuss with you further. Happy Thanksgiving! |

My rates with BJ haven't changed during the two years with them. I insure 3 cars with them,,,valued for $125K. I save over $1000 per year, compared to what I paid with State Farm, and for much better total coverage. (I have been with State Farm for 49 years > multi car, multi line discounts, with no tickets, and no claims) Bottom line,,I'm happy, and can't find better coverage for less, anywhere. |

quote: I could be wrong, but I could swear that Tom Randall posted before that via his conversations with BJ they informed him that the Prowler was considered by them as an exotic car. Don - are you indicating that, of Emily's cars insured thru Chartis, none of them is a Prowler and thus, she had no rate increase? Others with Prowlers insured with them have posted that the rate increase notice was recinded as having been made in error. Sounds like they are being less than truthful for the cause of the rate increase? I'm guessing my rate will increase with renewal. I have 2 Prowlers insured with them, both with significantly different valuations for the same year model, and had a wreck in my Trailblazer in 2010 (before my last renewal in 2011 with no increase in premium). I wonder what excuse I'll get. When I initially inquired about their insurance, one of the questions I asked was if it was a teaser rate where they get your business and then raise rates. I was told no. The lower rate was due to the fact that these are not daily drivers and are therefore less likely to have claims. |

Just wanted to share my experience. I recently requested a quote from Barrett Jackson after having my insurance with USAA since the car was new (but no agreed value). After reading about others experience with BJ over the last year, I decided to see what I could get for an agreed value of $35K. Their quote was from American Modern underwriter. It seems that Chartis is no longer underwriting exotics or for values under $50K. The quote I got was for $659/year. More than I am paying with USAA. The car is in TX, clean driving record, excellent credit. Finally I called BJ today. Was informed that even if Chartis would underwrite (but Emily doubted it since their new policy), it would be $1100/year through them! Nothing like the experience I have read about for the last year or so that others have experienced. I think I will check some of the recommendations from above. |

Mickey, I almost choked when she told me that. But those are the quotes. So it sounds like if you are looking for a new policy through BJ, bring your own KY, because I don't think they provide that either! |
