My prowler was caught in the flood last night. I need to know what to do now. My insurance is leaning toward totalling it, which is fine with me. How do I not get raped on this and get enough to buy another Prowler? It is a 99 red with 49,500 miles. I have full coverage with State Farm. The water was over the console inside but the motor was not started from what I was told.

Start looking on Autotrader.com and other sites for comparables. Also go to KBB.com to find what the blue book value is. Do your homework beforehand and be prepared to negotiate the offer they give you. Remember, the adjuster's job is to minimize the company's costs. If the offer is too low and they won't budge, be prepared to have a lawyer write a letter to the insurance company. My friend is a lawyer and I had him do that for me in a similar situation. Worked great. The additional cost of litigation is not what an insurance company wants.

If you want to keep the car, it's possible the insurance company will give you a settlement for the car's full value minus the salvage value. In some states it will then have a salvage or "marked" title though. Keep us posted on what happens...

Wow! That's too bad. My mom called me today...she lives in Central Pa. She was watching news and said they were showing flood damage in Lebanon, Pa., during the segment they showed a flooded garage, which had a Yellow Kat inside. Sad...hopefully it's going to dry out soon.

Yes on the 24 - 25 ish due to miles.

Insurance usually works on the basis of it is your obligation to prove your loss.

They will give you a number based on some of their research, and this is a courtesy to you to get things started.

If you disagree, compile ads of similar vehicles, with similar miles and submit it to the ins co for consideration.

A good adjuster will pay whatever can be justified. He must have the documentation in his file to justify the number paid. Help him/her have the appropriate documentation for the number you are comfortable with.

Show a variety of info/ads, not just all the high dollar stuff, but a blend and then average them out. Average out miles and prices.

Once it has been flooded, you don't want it back... unless just as a parts car. Mechanicals and cosmetics can be cleaned, but electrical and computers, no way. Then there is the issue of molds etc if not cleaned properly/fast.

Never accept their first offer. It will ALWAYS be lowballed. Ask how they arrived at that figure. Likely it was from doing their research on similar vehicles sold in your area. ASK FOR A COPY OF THAT LIST! Look it over for one that most resembles yours. Compiling your own list is a good idea as well. They should be able to tell you where you can get a replacement for what they are giving you for yours.
An occasion like this is why you want an agreed value on cars like these. They will not take rarity or collectability into account. You'll likely get an offer in the low 20's. With an agreed value, you get what was agreed on and would more likely be in the 30's or 40's. With Barrett Jackson, you decide what the car is worth. They don't require an appraisal unless it's over $250K. I have one valued in the lower to mid 30's and one valued in the lower to mid 80's, hard top, trailer, and weekender included. Your premiums will usually be alot lower than what you are paying for "normal" insurance too.

Maybe.
I was thinking closer to 20K (20-22K) because a very high number of Prowlers have very low miles, this one has "average" miles at best.

Thanks everyone, you've been very helpful. My car was in the process of getting all "prettied up" for car shows when this happened. I had already called my insurance to get an agreed upon coverage and he said bring it over as soon as it is done and we will take pics and do the paper work. No need to now.

Be sure you understand what "agreed upon coverage" is before you buy. With State Farm I am pretty sure it is NOT what they would pay in the case of a complete loss or total. It's just a number you THINK it's worth and still open for a lower number in case of a loss . I am 99% sure it is not like Barrett Jackson coverage.

The whole area took a lot of water. We are about 1 mile from the Delaware river and most roads in the area were flooded.

So, don't leave us hanging... what was the vehicle's value, what did you settle on, before any deductibles?

The first offer came in at $28,000.00. I was very surprised. Still working on a final amount.

The first offer may have been where it was especially if they paid attention to your recent inquiry into the agreed value policy. They already knew what you valued the car at prior to the claim.

Going through this process I imagine would not be easy but think of the up side.

Your preference in year and color may remain the same but this is an opportunity to make a different choice if you want to.

Having owned a Prowler already should make you much more aware of what you like or don't like and what to look for in your new one.

My personal preference is the 2000 for a couple reasons. It has the suspension changes along with the computer in the rear view mirror and the radio upgrades while still retaining the Koni Shocks which in my opinion are better than the Dynamic shocks. I would not turn down any year Prowler if it was the right deal at the moment.

I hope you reach a satisfactory settlement with the insurance company and find an ideal replacement for your car.

Andria, you forgot to mention about the 2000 being the highly sought after, yet little known about, millenium edition prowler.

Thanks again for all the help. The east coast in the fall is very low on their supply of Prowlers. The closest one is three hours away in NY. It's a red 99 with only 9,000 miles on it. I'm leaning towards getting it but will give another search for the 2000 models first. I thought about switching colors to the orange but I have alot of pics and gear done with the red prowler. Plus the pressure from friends to keep the red. Thanks again to everyone.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1999-RED-PLYMOUTH-PROWLER-/170701669148?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item27be9cc31c

This one is in Jefferson Hills (Clairton)Pa which looks to be a little south of Pittsburgh. That makes it about five hours away.

1999 Red Prowler second owner car.
4452 Miles $31,999.00 or best offer and not a dealer listing.

A cash in hand offer might make this one another option.

The e-bay provided Auto Check indicates this car has been around though.

Lexington KY, Eden NY, Manheim PA (auction), Clairton PA.

Current owner registered it 7/31/2006 with 3,642 miles on it.

There are 2 Orange 2001 Prowlers here near Harrisburg, PA. A Plymouth and a Chrysler. I can get you info if you want only 1-1/2 away from you in Old Forge. You just have to bring me some Pizza from Rivello's>

I'm headed to Virginia Sat.to check on a 2000 red, but thanks anyway. Are you from this area that you know about Old Forge pizza? Have you tried Ghigarelli's across the street from Reviello's? That's my favorite. Bring the cat up and we'll hit them both.
