I have never taken the Prowler on a trip but we are going to Woodward this month and Pa. next month. I decided to make the repairs to my window regulators before they break. I have the drivers side done and reinstalled. When I removed it it was already broke in one place but no missing plastic. I found several repairs using the search feature on this forum and decided the poly tubing and hose clamp fix looked the best for me. I cleaned the old plastic tube and epoxied the poly tube to the original and hose clamped it and let it set for a 24 hour period to cure. The passenger side wasn't broke but I removed it and reinforced it to avoid future problems. I will reinstall the passenger side tomorrow. It wasn't as bad as I though it could be but the directions I found saved me a lot of grief.

I had my Prowler delivered to Indiana on New Years Eve of this year. The top was up and the windows were down when it arrived and my wife put it in the garage and to my knowledge the windows were never raised or lowered since I have owned the car. The point is they should never have broken with under 7,000 miles and little use.

its simply a bad product.not so much the design, but the plastic material.if the center plastic section was metal,it would most likle be a different story.it may come down to the fact of weight saving or cost, plastic vs. metal.

I have already replaced both sides twice. And i am thrilled that I see I have an other option available. Use has very little to do with them breaking. I am a dirty smoker and always have drivers side window in use, rarely the passengers. Both times, each window went within six weeks of each other. I chalk it up as a reminder that at the end of the day I drive around in a twelve year old Plymouth. Someone had to say it. Haha.

Here is where I found the repair that I used.
http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/002685.html

Great details and not expensive to do. I took 3 days to do mine.

Day one I removed the drivers side window regulator and made my first repair. The only departure I made was I used epoxy to fasten the poly tubing to the original plastic tube of the Prowler window regulator.

The next day I installed it after drying for 24 hours and then removed the other one. I made the same repairs to the second one then let it dry.

Day 3 I installed the second one.

I had the door panels off once before when I replaced the door speakers so that part was easy and the rest went so well I couldn't believe it.

There are a few details I would add to the list. The window is held in by screws with torx heads, I believe a T30. When you remove the two rear torx screws on the rear of the window you have to slide the window to the rear so it will come out of it's seat, the seat I am referring to is the white plastic part attached to the lower front corner of the window where it meats the window track. Once you do this you will see the 3rd and final torx screw, remove it and the plastic hardware to make it easier to get the window out of the door. I would also recommend removing the thick rubber strip at the top of the door, it just pulls up and off, easy to do. This will give you plenty of room to get the window out of the door.

I got the poly tubing from our local Menards store similar to Lowes and Home Depot. They also had the hose clamps 30 of them and I bought Loctite brand slow drying epoxy, I'm sure any kind will do. I bought the pool cue tips from a pool supply but I didn't like the ones I bought. The key here is to improvise. Once you have the door panels off I would recommend replacing the 4 black Christmas Tree shaped fasteners on the inside of the door panel. I found them at Advance Auto and the package said they were for a Ford but were close enough they worked fine. If you haven't replace your door speakers yet I would do so at this time and kill two birds with one stone!

catfish, I was impressed with the design but they surely missed the mark on the materials they used. I realize that I got here late and many have been through this before.

In three cats, I have had seven failed window regs.

Keep in mind,,,even when repaired with the 'fix',,,,,you still could have the motor drive unit go out OR worse,,, the nylon gears within the OEM window regulator unit, can get chewed up and rendering the 'fix' useless.

After losing 7, I've gone to the Tom Mills replacement unit, which I would rate 20 X a better thought for replacement or doing the fix.

Tom Mills makes a great product. They have been in for a little over a year now and I am more than satisfied with them.

If you could afford to retire, that makes you the one that is loaded.

I am so poor I can't even pay attention!

At 55 years old, I am looking at another 20 years before I can even think about considering retirement.

Don't feel bad about regulators malfunctioning. I just received my Sept. issue of Road and Track and a reader wrote in to "Tech Advice" column about the window reg. on his '04 Cadillac. Tom Wilson, the writer of the column said this was typical of several years Cadillac used a system like used in a Prowler, so there you have it, we don't suffer alone
