I just got a renewal quote from Barret Jackson insurance. My cost last year was $194/yr. This year the renewal is quoted as $374/yr.from B-Jackson and another quote from "American Modern" ins co.@$436 I have No tickets, nothing changed...... except the quote. Anybody else out there got this renewal letter? see below: ****************************************************** We value and thank you for your business. Private Client Group at Chartis has made some underwriting and rating changes in their collector car program which will be affecting your policies. When you receive your renewal you will notice a rather substantial increase in premium over the expiring term. We worked to try to not let this happen but were unsuccessful. Fortunately the collector car insurance market is very competitive and, as an independent agent, we represent other outstanding carriers.
Your renewal premium with Chartis will be approximately $374.00. The quote attached with American Modern is $436.00.
We have partnered with American Modern Insurance (AM Best Rating A+) to make certain you have an alternative. I have attached a proposal for your review. The policy includes agreed value and $0 deductible comprehensive and collision. The policy offers Roadside Assistance up to 200 miles. The liability limits are the same as the current policy. The mileage guidelines are 3000 and usage is occasional commute to work, occasional pleasure use, club events, shows, parades, etc.
If you would like us to move your coverage to American Modern, please let me know and I will send you the application and let you know what additional supporting documents are required.
Please do not hesitate to call with questions and/or concerns. Again, thank you for your continued business.
Best Regards

Mine renewed in April for same cost as before. I hope to hell they aren't going to double on me next April. The letter states they tried to avoid it but were unable to. You should call them for more specific details on the cause of the increase. |

I had a feeling it wouldn't stay low for too long. It wouldn't take too many claims to start losing money. $374 still isn't to bad. |

Paid mine at the end of February,,,,,same as year before. To cover the three cars with State Farm, with less total coverage, would be $800 year more. Maybe it was due to the claims and repair costs in California? Still seems cheap for coverage you get...... |

Mr. Cat, Actually, you are incorrect about my age. I am now 117 years old. As to my insurance rate, we are not talking about life insurance, it is car insurance. My risk ratio is quite low as all I ever do is sit in the car, think about how good life used to be, and pass gas! The car only has 2700 miles on it so my risk ratio is quite low. The Old Man |

BJ almost doubled my insurance on the Kat, I got the same lame letter stating why this was done. They stink and I called them and told them so, I cancelled my insurance with them instantly. They suck you in with a low rate and then a year later double the premium. I have contacted the insurance commissioner here in California and opened a claim with them. They sent the appropriate forms, I have filled them out and returned them, this will open an investigation into their activities. The person I spoke with said it looked like a bait and switch scheme of sorts. Everyone who has been screwed by BJ should do the same. |

For more than 10 years I've either insured my Prowler through Hagerty or Grundy Worldwide;and according to the data posted here, I've paid excessive prices. Would someone please tell me how to contact one of these agents you are referencing to include name, phone#, and email. Thanks in advance. |

Larry - a search on this site will find the info you are looking for. Steve - prior to signing on with BJ, I was concerned about the bait and switch tactic and asked about their history of raising rates for that reason. I was told they don't play that way. This issue is certainly of concern to us all and I agree, filing a claim with the board of insurance when this happens is a good idea. But before filing a claim I would contact BJ and ask for more detailed info on the cause of the increase. A generic, "we tried to stop it but were unsuccessful" is inadequate. Follow up on rate hike with Barrett Jackson Ins ..... I called B-J today talked to "Amy". Asked her why my renewal was almost doubled. She said maybe because of prior claims. I told her I had no claims, not last year nor in the last 10 years. I said I would like to know why the increase as my credit is XLNT, no tickets in last 10 years, no accidents, no claims and I only drove the car about 1000 miles in the last year. .........She said she would talk to an underwriter and get back to me. ............She called back in a few hours and said they were rescinding my rate hike and they would be sending out a corrected billing to me..........Amy was very polite and very pleasant to deal with. |
