Does anyone know where to get hood struts that last. I am on my second Chrysler struts and they have lasted for about ten lifts. They are now gone. No more Chrysler struts for me. Golf clubs do a good job but would like to have the real thing. Thank. Jim

Does anyone know if you can retrofit hood struts to a 1997 and, if so, do you have to modify anything. I really don't like the hood prop. Thanks in advance. Rick

Is there a warranty on the LST struts? Mine are shot. Luckily I stepped away for a second before the hood came crashing down.

I recall a tutorial on retrofitting a 97 or 99 with the hood struts when they were first introduced. Some cutting of the foam is required, but no welding or anything major. However, after those first Plymouth and Chrysler struts started to fail, and hoods were slamming on people - then THOSE folks wanted to reto hood struts to hood prop! Kinda like the Dr. Suess story of the Star Belly Sneatches!

Don't know about a warranty but I don't know of anyone having a problem w/ them. I had a set replaced by Chrysler under warrany & they lasted 1 year. I went to LST's & haven't had a problem!

Matt,,,you are right. Stephen sold his stake in the company, and was working with Nolan for quite some time to make sure the transition work smoothly. I'll edit my post above

lionberger, I'm sure somebody who has done the retro-fit changeover may step up and explain the process. With the LST hood struts, there shouldn't be the problems that there were with the OEM struts.

superdoppler, I believe Stephen stated their warranty was for three years, but should last 5+ years due to increased pressure and better seals within. You might send Nolan an email, and ask him directly. Not many OEM struts lasted past the 18 months of use period. Arvin-Meritor, who made the OEM struts, didn't put much effort into making them durable.

There was an LST recall of sorts for some units made in specific months of 2010. I think July/August. They had shipped the wrong ends. But I was notified by them quickly and replacements were sent quickly.

Our LST struts have been installed since the Louisville event in 2006. Still function perfectly. Before that I went through several sets of stock struts.

My LST struts no longer hold my hood up either. Having just moved from 'hot & humid' Miami to 'wintery cold' Asheville, I thought it might be the colder temps causing the problem. But Ed Monahan's cars are in cold weather with no problems, so it must be my set.

I'll contact LST and post an update here re their warranty support....

WARRANTY UPDATE

I called LST Technologies and spoke with Nolan who advised the following...

LST struts are warranted for 2 years only, and my date of purchase was March 4, 2006. So my struts are OUT OF WARRANTY.

The LST struts I purchased in 2006 were manufactured with single seals and 70 lb strength. The LST struts made today are manufactured with double seals and 80 lb strength. Today's struts sell for $50 each + shipping - or $120 total.

Nolan advised that based on my situation, he would sell me new struts for $40 each and include shipping - or $80 total.

Strongarm lifts are the exact same as OEM struts,,,made by Arvin-Meritor Company,,,and sold under different names to the auto parts stores. They will fail shortly, unless you never open your hood and keep in a warm place. Even then,,I wouldn't bet on them....

About 18 to 30 months is the longevity on those Arvin-Meritor made hood sturts, in most cases. Why do you think they replaced 25K sets of them under Prowler warranty,,,,not because they were well designed.

WARNING ::: WARNING ::: WILL ROBINSON

Don't trust your head and hands under the hood for extended periods of time, after they have aged.

swergemo,i think you should take those 2 yr old arvin meritor struts and donate them to the hood strut hall of fame.must be rare cause they all leaked.i had a set that lasted 2 momths.if your car is equipped to have struts installed, you will have 4 ball studs,1 each on the hood side of the hinge and 1 on each of the blk triangle shaped
brkt by the top of the removeable side panel.if none in those locations you would have to buy 2 hinges and 2 brkts to install them.mine came with a prop rod,and also had the 4 ball studs mentioned above.i would also consult with the most knowledgeable mopar parts guy you can find, its possible they were sold seperatly, wouldnt hurt to ck.

Thanks for all your reply's. Talked to Nolan and my new ones are on the way. I would not trust having my head or any one else's under the hood with the replacement struts. They are dangerous and a law suit in the waiting. Thanks for the help with LST. Jim
