In sort of the same idea as the Original Owners thread, I got to thinking about those of us that purchased our cars as "Pre-Owned". What has me so interested is that I really want to find out who did the paint work on my Yellow Prowler. When I bought it, I asked the folks that I bought it from and they said that they thought the person they bought it from had it done in Florida. I recently contacted the previous owner, the Fishers, and they told me that they had bought it from their neighbor, Mr. Hutton, a couple years earlier and gave me his email. I emailed him but he didn't know who had it painted either, but thought that it was done by an owner "back east" who had showed it for two years and then sold it for a Corvette. Mr. Hutton bought it from a Dealership in Florida off ebay and brought it to Northern California, and later sold it to the Fishers. I then bought it off ebay and trailered it here to Texas. Seems like this Prowler has been all over the United States. So I want to backtrack the history of the Yellow, checking DMV and Carfax and such, and hopefully find out who painted it! I already know where my Purple and Mulholland have been, so if anyone else knows any history of this Prowler, chime in!!! |

Yes, in a local parade in Beloit, driven by the dealership owner, he put 7 miles on the 'clock', then in their showroom, then friend's enclosed trailer for transport 'home' then in my possesion ever since. |

Tex, if you want to email me your VIN, I can possibly find out where all it has been. Some states don't participate so I may not get all of them. I have access to a website through work and it usually works out well. |

I am the third owner of my Kat.(to the best of my knowledge) The car to the best of my knowledge was sold new in Texas to Richard F who was responsible for many of the modifications to the car including the flame job on the side panels, fenders, dash, door panels, and intake plenum not to mention the large quantities of chrome throughout the car which from what I heard did well by the car at the "Autorama". The car was sold through e-bay to my friend Mark H here in Maryland. I was with him when he picked it up from the shipper, the car had about 9,000 miles on it. I became the third owner in December 2008. The car had 13,800 miles on it. Today it has 25,250 miles (plus or minus) I am enjoying every minute of the Prowler experience especially the folks associated with it. P.S. Mine was at a horror house last night. A group of angry wives took a picture of it parked out front and posted it in the newspaper hoping to shame me into never going there again. |

I'm not too sure. There was a bunch of really ugly old women in there with some funky hats on, warts on their noses, and greenish skin. NOTHING like the ones in Nevada, I'll tell you that! And the ones in the parking lot weren't any better! |

Well, no luck on DCS, Lexus Nexus, Florida DMV, NCIC or anything else I ran from the office. Was only able to trace back to who I bought it from on California DMV, didn't even list Wally. Nothing showing what dealer in Florida had it and Wally doesn't have that information anymore. Haven't tried Carfax yet to see what states it had info from, as I understand that will not give previous owner information. Any suggestions on tracing the previous owners? |

Tom - if you know a dealer locally you might try talking to them. Alternately, maybe get someone in Florida to talk to a dealer friend of theirs. When I bought my 2nd van, the dealer printed up some info for me on the previous owner. He probably shouldn't have done that, but he did. It showed their name, address, phone number, etc. I never saw a form like that before. I called her to ask some questions about the van before buying it. She denied ever owning it. It's probably a long shot but might be worth a try. I probably still have that paper laying around somewhere. I'll look and see if it has a form name on it so you will know what to ask for. I wish I had info on my old opal. I'd have ya run it. I would love to find it. Probably sitting in a junk yard with all my belongings in it still. That paper I got from the dealer on my van was called a VIP SUMMARY REPORT. It's kinda like a dealer's carfax. Shows Vehicle info, Warning message(s), Vehicle restriction, Owner information, Warranty coverage summary, Recall information, Service history (he went back 24 months), Service contracts, Current vehicle transfer information (for the warranty), Selling dealer information, Open CAIR summary. I recently bought mine but the one thing I noticed when looking for one ( and did autochecks on them ) was that 4 out of 5 had multiple owners even when it had less than 20K miles and most have zig-zag all over the country. |

Looks like she was purchased new 10/09/1998 in Collinsville, Illinois with 5 miles on her, and went to Southeastern Region Auto Auction 12/12/2000 with 767 miles. That matches what Wally told me, that the previous owner traded it in for a Corvette. Wally Hutton must have bought her 2/5/2001 with 1194 miles and then sold her to Darryl Fisher, his neighbor 4/9/2004 with 11,220 miles. I bought the Yellow 12/23/2008 from the Fishers with 18,305 miles. No accidents or any other problems at all found. I am the fourth owner if you don't count the dealer in Florida. So that narrows down where it was from, I just need to see who had it in Collinsville Illinios and if he was the one who painted it, and who then did the paint. Tried to run the VIN through our systems for Illinois, but it must not be in the systems for us to view anymore. That is not uncommon for out of state inquiries that are older. Anyone from Illinois have any suggestions on checking an older registration through your DMV? |

FINALLY !!! Through many searches and with the help of several members here, I had a great hour long conversation yesterday with the first owner of the Yellow. He still lives in Collinsville and was surprised to hear that no one had seen this car before, as he had won many shows with it in the St. Louis and Columbia Missouri area, along with Canada and in Tampa Florida. He told me this was the second custom paint that was done to the car and also surprised me that there was a trailer that went with the car, but that the purchaser chose not to take it, so he sold it later. The Trailer had a mural painted on it and matched the car's first paint scheme, but was sold to someone south of Dallas. He is helping me run down that owner too. Maybe I can reunite the car and trailer! Phil has some pictures of the before and afters and some other items he has graciously offered to send me. The paint work was done by Quint's Kustom Kolors in Avon Indiana, www.quintskustomkolors.com and Quint was the one to do the first custom work also. I am curious to see how that looked before he let Quint do this one. Quint didn't have any pictures of this Prowler on his website, but I hope to speak with him soon, and if I can't get the trailer, maybe I can get him to do something to our current Yellow Trailer. If you look at the link to his website, you can see some influences to what was done on the Yellow Prowler. Phil said Quint is very talented and I can see that from some of his other work. I hope to speak to Quint sometime this week too. When I show this car, I always get questions about the paint and who did the work. Now I am getting to where I can answer all of the history of the car correctly. Thanks to the folks from this site that helped me trace this car down to the original owner, it is great to finally have some questions answered! |
