This is my first post on these boards, but like all here I have allways wanted a Prowler. I have been involved in building advanced electric cars since retiring, and am looking for a prowler with a blown engine, tranny, etc. to use as a starting point for a new build. Somehow it just seems 'right' to breathe a new high tech life into such a great body style. 1). Anybody know of an available car for a REASONABLE price? 2). Has anyone built an electric Prowler yet? Frank, I think this would be a great idea. I have never heard of an electric Prowler so I hope you build the first. A Prowler with a decent body will likely be at least $20K but maybe a high-miler (>>100K miles) could be less. A salvage title car would likely be the best candidate due to the nature of the project and those should be in the teens. Good luck with the project and keep up posted on your progress! Kevin |

Sounds like a great idea, then we could all have the prowler we love, without all the prowler problems I read about from fuel pumps and on. However I must say my car has never had any problems yet except for a window regulator, anyone have any wood I can knock on! |

Frank, what type of electric cars have you built?? What type of batteries, motor, transmission, controller, charger, DC-DC converter, and gauge did you use?? For my electric car I used a 98 Chevy S-10 with 200ah Lithium Ion batteries a 9" ADC motor with 5 speed trans. Raptor 1200 controller and a Chetta charger. And barley had room in a truck, of course I can hall plywood. But all of this would never fit into my Prowler. Maybe if I used the trailer??Let me know. Thank You. Steve |

Pick up a Prowler at a good price $22,000 to $25,000 as they are out there and the parts that you remove can be sold helping to pay for the car... Some guys like me are starting to collect and sell Prowler Parts to help out other Prowler owners that are in the need, for keeping there car up and running... With LIFEPO4 Batteries not Lithium Ion and the engine and transmission removed there is more than plenty of room !!! The Car would probably kick the Tesla's A$$. GO FOR IT! ------------------ |

Some people don't appreciate the development of the electric car. I own a Toyota Prius now and hope my next car will be all electric. Ford has a Focus coming out that is all electric. When you remove the engine, transmission, transaxle, fuel tank and associated items from a car you will find a lot of room for batteries. Battery technology is advancing at a rapid rate because people are starting to see a way to jump in early and make a lot of money on a good battery design. Future electric cars can be all wheel drive with a motor at each wheel instead of the arrangement we use in cars now and will need little or no transmission. Electric cars have not been made in quantity for 100 years, give electric some time and you will wonder why it ever took so long. Do you think the oil companies had something to do with it, na! Maybe hydrogen/electric would work, but until they get the electrical grid in this country up, can you imagine the brown-outs this country would have when everyone got home from work and plugged in thier cars. Look what happens now during a heat wave in the eastern U.S. Major brown-outs when the A/C's turn on. Throw in a few million electic cars and hold on. Speaking of cheap, inexpensive, and available fuel, how about neuclear/electric power cars. When you get home, plug your car into your house, power it and re-supply the power grid, plus lower your electrical bill. Hydrogen/electrical will do the same thing as they are already doing this in Sweden on a small scale. They would run on a pea size piece of uranium for 20+ rears, and would be just as safe as any other type of fuel. If they can build power plants that can survive a neuclear explosion, they can build a small one that can survive a car crash!! |
