If so, shoot me a PM....

I'm looking for a magneto for my '71 Trophy 500, and also any period-correct finned case covers, for my bobber project.

I know you used to be heavy into the old Triumphs.....

Thanks.

Don are you looking for a magneto or a rotor & Stator??.
Is it for you ignition or charging system, ???

Correct me if I'm wrong but 71 Triumphs being unit construction would have had a Battery, coil, & points ignition. with a stator & rotor for charging

1963 & older triumph Pre-unit models would have a generator & magneto ignition .

PM me with what you are looking for I may have some Triumph Stuff, I know I have some pre-unit motors, ridgid frames, & later bolt-on or weld-on hardtails, Hap Jones peanut gas tanks NOS, anyway I got some stuff let me know if I can help you out.

Here are some sources for classic Triumph parts:
http://www.walridge.com/section/view/
http://www.britishonly.com/Default.asp?bhjs=1&bhsw=1024&bhsh=768&bhswi=833&bhshi=612&bhflver=5&bhdir=1&bhje=1&bhcold=16&bhrl=-1&bhqt=-1&bhmp=-1&bhab=-1&bhmpex=&bhflex=5,0,42,0&bhdi rex=&bhcont=lan
http://www.britishpartschicago.com/index2.html
http://www.domiracer.com/parts.html

The first two are good sources, from whom I have bought many parts. Try to have the part numbers for the stuff you need. this will help you get through their systems.

Good luck,

Well color me blonde,

Initially I thought you were looking for car parts but after reading a few more posts, I have decided you are talking Motorcycles.

Keep in mind that you should not ride any faster than you are willing to fall.

Keep in mind, the slower you are moving on a motorcycle, the higher the chance of falling over.

Thanks for the tips about falling, guys.

Honestly, I am not planning on riding this bike at all in city traffic...been there, done that, don't want to do it again. Frankly, I am not sure what to do with it, since I also don't have anywhere to store it, either.

Somebody "paid" me some $$$ they owed by giving me this bike, and it has been in storage for the last 25 years, but I lost my free storage, so the only solution was to either junk it, or fix it up.

Naturally, fixing this valuable "gift" up is costing far more than the original debt, so I am upside down in every way imaginable on this "deal".

If anybody is interested in a nice Triumph period-correct Ace Cafe-style bobber, I'd sure consider a sale or trade.

It's being built by a guy who really knows his stuff, and has built some show-winning custom Triumphs. His link is earlsbikes.net, if anyone is interested in what this bike might possibly look something like, if and when I ever get it finished.

Meanwhile, thanks all for the tips on parts, etc.

Don
After looking at earls site I think I realized what you may be looking for, if it's a Joe Hunt Magneto, I may have a set up to fit your Bike in my R-chives, if the fire I had a few years ago didn't get to it, Fire was so hot it melted a lot of my aluminum stuff so I'm not sure if it's condition.

Believe it or not I had a Triumph Finned primary cover, rocker box cover's, overhead oiler, & a real rare finned timing or cam cover which had to be machined to accept a Joe Hunt Mag, this set ws sold to a guy from Australia about 3yrs ago along with tons of other Triumph parts I had.

If memory serves me right one of the Companies making the cast finned covers was called Mother Earth Engineering & I still have a finned Primary cover, finned Panhead covers, front finned brake backing plate & oil filter on my 57 Panhead that came from them.

Let me know if it's a Joe Hunt Mag is what you seek, if it is & your not in a rush for it I'll put you to my want list so when I run across it I'll put it aside for you.

Thanks for posting the link to earls shop It looks a lot like my shop did before my fire.

HELL YEAH, a Joe Hunt finned magneto is JUST what I am looking for!!!

The bike is a '71 Trophy 500, and my guy says they didn't make them for anything but the 650 and 750 Bonnies, but he wasn't sure, he just knew he hadn't ever seen one.

Send me a list of anything you've got that'll fit that sucker...I'm a sucker for anything made from finned aluminum!!!

Yikes with that fire stuff, though....melted aluminum? That must've been a heck of a barbeque....

Thanks.

Well Hell Don LOL You didn't ask for a Joe Hunt Mag & 71 Triumph's didn't come stock with a magneto, that's what threw me off.
Yes they were also made for 500's, as of a 7 years ago I believe they were still made & available from Joe Hunt for about Big $$$$$ according to an old catalog I had before my fire.

I'll check with Joe Hunt in the morning to see if they still make them for the 500.

Their is also a company called Domiracer (spelling might be wrong??)I used to deal with years ago that had loads of British stuff & also carried Joe Hunt Mags.

Yeah the fire got pretty hot, I have a big warehouse & collected Stuff, (still do) I had in excess of 110 antique Bicycles from the teens to none newer than 1970, more than 50 pedal cars & such hanging from the rafters, when the tires caught fire That combined with a lot early full oil can memorabilia & the nature of what is kept in M/C shop was enough to get temps around 2000 degrees in part of the building, Yep it Got Hot enough to twist steel beams, explode & pop bricks in the walls, melt aluminum into puddles

If I haven't got what you need, I'll try to steer you in the right direction

Don
I found my Triumph Mag, I had hoped it survived but it's toast, I spoke with Joe Hunt Mags today, they still make a Tri, 500 Mag, about $745.00. Because I haven't dealt with them in Years I've lost my dealer status with them, I would have to place a large Minimum order to get reinstated as a Dealer or I would have offered it to you at cost & had it dropped shipped

Do a search on e-bay they are also some on there, I will check with Morris Mags later today for you to see what they have. I have also posted this mag wanted on the the Motorcycle Salvage Directory to see if I get any hits for one

Here is a link to Joe Hunt http://www.huntmagnetos.com/triumph-norton_unit.html

Hope this helps

YIKES!!!!!

Nearly $1,000 for a magneto!?!?!?!?!

That's more $$$$ than I'll have into any other single aspect of this whole project!!!!

The buddy that "gave me" this bike for some $$$ he owed me must be laughing in his grave right now.....

Jerry, I miss you, and you got the last laugh after all.

But if they have motorcyles in hell, you'd better watch out, 'cause when I get there on this damned bike, it isn't going to have a headlight!!!

Don & people think Prowler parts are expensive.
Don try joining a British Bike site or Club , there is one here in Conn Called British Iron, where I have gotten lots of parts from over the years in fact that is one of the places I have gone to ask for a Triumph Mag for you, Just like the POA a good venue for parts.

I Like the way Joe Hunt Mags mount better than Morris But Even Joe hunt at 745.00 is

For Ha Ha's I inquired when I talk to the rep at Joe Hunt today about replacement parts for the toasted Mag I have, you just won't believe what it would cost me to rebuild it, Plus I would have to ship to Cal to have it done.

On Earls site I saw what looked like a heap of stuff with Joe hunt Mags in it are any of them any good????

Keep looking on e-bay you may luck out

The building also has one that needs to be rebuilt, but his price was about the same - in the range of $800.00.

I'm gonna stick with the original electrics and see what happens....

Like Lucas used to say, real gentlemen don't go motoring about after dark, anyway.....

Don
Nothing Wrong with stock electrics, Everyone else had Problems But I never had problems with Lucas electrics, make sure that all your earth (ground) connections are clean, and all the positive connections are copper shiny bright & clean, as well as all your light sockets, with a small touch up brush coat them all with Di-electric grease, make sure all connections are tight.

With a stator, rotor & rectifier charging system, battery, coil, point Ignition it should be trouble free, I always had 4 separate circuits, Lights, charging, Ignition, Accessories, when doing custom wiring & used circuit breakers
if your bike is equipped with a zenior diode make sure it is grounded well and in a heat sink, I used to to add an aluminum plate to where the stock heat sink mounted.

The biggest Problem I found with Lucas electrics was corrosion in the light sockets, plug in's or Loose connections,

Good Luck with it Don
