I am new to this forum and to the prowler. I just purchased a 2002 Yellow with 11K miles on it. There are a few glitches in it. Such as the top being nicked by the back latch. Speakers are shot in dash and the hood shocks are not working. They repaired the spot on the top, but not to my satisfaction, so we are negotiating replacing the top. They ordered new hood shocks and I am going to replace the speakers.

I have a lot to learn about the car. I ordered a complete service manual off of ebay the other day and am waiting for it to arrive. After it arrives I will start into the basic mods that I want.

I am coming from the custom motorcycle world so I am looking forward to trying some different for a while. I hope that in the future I will get to go to some of the prowler events and meeting many of you. Thanks for allowing me to be on the board.

Welcome Rob,
I'm in the same boat as you are. I purchased a bone stock 2002 Candy Red with just under 13,000 miles a week ago and also need to replace the hood shocks and door speakers. I already started ordering cosmetic upgrades.

Good luck!

Passenger door speaker is blown. I've searched the forum and seen that most are replacing them with the infinity's.
Not sure what people use for the other speakers in the car though.

Thanks for the tips on the hood supports. I had the guy who sold me the car get those so it is too late on that one this round. The top, I found a company in New Jersey called convertible top guys. The OEM material with back glass is $719. Haven't ordered yet, want to do some research first. I found some used manuals (set of 4) on ebay for $18.50 shipped. They are used and may have grease marks on the pages but I just consider that a redneck highlight. I will know by the grease marks what are the problem areas. I still need to find the speakers that will fit the holes and allow door panels and dash panel to be reinstalled without problems. Any help on brands and models for speakers would be appreciated.

The infinity speakers will fit without any drilling or changing hole sizes.
The OEM hood shocks will last about a year or until you put your head under the hood. The work better when it is warm, don't work at all when it is cold.
Stephen Fenner's last for years and open the hood an extra inch or three.
Welcome to the POA.
About 80 Prowlers will be in Pigeon Forge, TN starting this coming Sunday. There will be some very knowledgable people there plus me.

Wish I could make it to TN but we have some employees on vacation and I have to be around the work place. I love Pigeon Forge. Used to go to the Honda Hoot every year until it stopped. Great roads in East TN to ride motorcycles as well as Prowlers. Maybe next year!!

Check this out for speaker installs. The speaker numbers for the infinity kappas may be different as this is an old thread. For example, the correct door speaker is 63.9i now I believe. http://www.zianet.com/SLlover/page60a24.html There are a few more recent updates with install tips as well. The speaker connections are now slightly different. Drop me a PM with email address as needed and I'll send you some help for the door speakers.

Welcome Hogzilla and Snakebite. This is a great group of people on this site. I have been a member of many car clubs, boating clubs, airplane clubs and bike clubs...and this is the greatest group you will ever find. Everyone is helpful, as you can see already. Wish you guys could join us in the Smokies next week, but we understand about work.

Hey Hogzilla were you on the Rune Board? If so I was too...Sold my Rune and bought a "99" Red Kat with 6000 miles 3 weeks ago. Already replaced the speakers and hood struts. The Kats are just like the Runes with drawing the attention. Wife likes it lot better, she gets to go with me now. :confused

I kind of figured that the aftermarket would be junk. Dealt with some of that on a jeep years ago. Idon't know if I will even replace the top for a while. It has a pinch mark in the center that had a small hole. They tried to repair it and made an area about the size of a half dollar fuzzy. It is noticeable but it doesn't leak. I am OCD so it draws my attention. I know this car will not be in a museum and I plan on driving it and putting miles on it. This is a fun car to enjoy but.....I want it to be right. I just don't want to meet up with yall and everyone say man whats up with your top? I may just save some cash and do my other mods and when I am done....buy a hard top for it.

Thanks again for responding

If you have a hardtop no one will notice the fuzzy soft top. Most folks drive with the top down most of the time so it still won't be noticable. If the top is up because it is raining, nobody will be standing out there looking at your fuzzy top.
I think I covered most of the scenarios so I would save the $ 800 to 1200 you were going to spend and put it toward a hardtop. Put a smiley face sticker over the fuzzy spot in the meantime.

Thumper,

Small world!! Yep that is me. Sold the Rune bought an 09 Harley Road King. Decided I needed something that was as cool and rare as the Rune so.......I bought a Prowler. You are right they get the attention and there are very few of them around. Great to see you here. The Prowler is the "Rune" of cars. No storage, very few made, cool as can be and fun to drive.

Great advice! Where do you get the hard tops? Which company is the best? I think it would look great with the Hard top.

TGF is/was the only company that made them. I wouldn't buy one from the Prowlerstore on the internet. Their prices are skyhigh on everything, from what I have seen.

A Honda motorcycle that looks like a custom chopper. They only made a very small number of them. Very cool looking bike. I was very tempted to get one but they are one seaters.
