Hey guys, I've recently come into the market for a prowler and have been browsing this site for information using the search feature--I've been waiting to get approval to post for a while now! I have a few questions to help me with my search... 1. I'm only interested in black prowlers so I understand my only year options are 99 and 00--what are, if any, the differences between the two years? 2. What are the "must-do's" if any? For example, removing the skip-**** eliminator on manual tranny cars... 3. I'm interested in 22" wheels for the rear and was wondering what is the biggest you can fit on the front? I believe I saw someone put 20" in the front but can't seem to find where I saw that...also, who makes rims with the deepest dish? Any pics for 22" rims on the back would be great too... Thanks for your interest in the car that changed my life.. If you get one it to will change yours.. I have a 1999 Black Prowler and though they look like the 2000 there is some difference it them... This site has some great info in the archives and by doing a surch You can find just about anything and it will teach you for future info needed... If you get a Prowler do like I did and spend some time searching and know what you are buying.. I spent close to year before I picked mine up and new more about the car than the owner and it gave me a good buying tool when it came to price and things that you should look for when buying a Prowler Difference is ride as the 1999 is ruffer ride, Mirror as the 2000 is different than the 1999, the auto volume on the radio is different in a 2000.. I didn't give you complete answers so you can learn to use the search section on this site.. Answer 2 is NO Prowlers are standard all auto with a over ride that allows you to **** manually... I help owners sell there cars along with lots of stuff here in Colorado and I have a owner that has a 2000 black for sale.. Lots of cars out there so don't wait on getting one... Good luck on your Prowler quest. I agree with OneCat the Prowler has changed our lives. The 99 Prowlers came with Koni shocks as standard equipment. In 2000 they switched to General Dynamic shocks. The 99's therefore sat slightly lower and had a somewhat stiffer ride. The problem is that the General Dynamic shocks over a short period of time began to leak. DC started replacing the leaking shocks with Koni's. Other differences include auto radio volume added on the 2000's and also a computerized rear view mirror with display. |

When puttiung larger wheels on the rear, one thing to check is the clearence for tires on the frame rail in front of the rear wheels. You will be limited to the overall diameter of the tire. I had a black 2000 and absolutely loved it. Another difference is in the 2000 and newer models they added a chrome bezel around the shifter. Be sure to have a dealer run the vin # to check if the car has had the ball joint recall service performed. |

So were the leaking dynamic shocks also a recall? Is that something to look for that has been changed? For the ball joint recall, I can just roll into any Chrysler dealership and have them check for it and they would fix it? Any additional guidance with the rim sizes? |

As far as I know the shocks have either been replaced under warranty or paid for out of pocket by the owner. No recall that I am aware of was ever issued. My 99 came with Koni's and I have never had a problem with them. Cnote is our resident wheel and tire expert as that is his business. Hopefully he will see this and reply. If the ball joint recall has been performed they should have a computer record of it for your car. some shocks sd that were leaking recently replaced under warranjty sporing this yr.just depends on how smart your dealer is on getting it done.as far as tires go as stated above,cant be any larger dia,because of frame rail.the susp.on 2000 up is softer allowing for a better ride.other than that thay are the same.you dont want to buy one that has been sitting foir the last few years.it can have low miles but when was the last time it was driven.if the owner drove it a hundred miles a month every month he owned it fine,but if its been sitting for yrs and yrs -beware. ------------------ |

I received from a extremely reliable source the following clarification on the shocks. 1997-1999 Koni shocks 2000 Koni shocks: re-valved and spring rate change as part of suspension update 2001-2002 Dynamic Systems Inc (DSI) (now Multimatic, same supplier for Viper) shocks: same shock valving and spring rate as 2000 Koni |

I had a shock to leak on my '01 and Chrysler tried to replace the one and ended up installing 2 Konis when they could not match the original. No trouble since. |

What is the reliability like with these cars? I have always bought either new cars or cars with <100 miles that were either left overs from previous model years or someone had a change of heart--I'm looking at a couple prowlers with miles ranging from 90 on the clock up to 7k... assuming both are in good physical shape, which would likely be in better mechanical condition? |

Most likely everyone would answer your question with the 7K car, saying that the 90 miler wasn't run. HOWEVER, a lower miler can be just as good if taken care of properly and run regularly to keep it in good running order. There is a difference in not running, and not being driven. My 2000 came with the Dynamic shocks which were replaced once with another set of Dynamics then later with Konis when the 2nd set of Dynamics started leaking. |

I saw some Kats with 20" in the front, but they run to lowprofile tires. To me, 225/35 R19 front and 285/35 R22 back is a nice setup with ok driving comfort. Boyds, Intro, Budnik make custom offset rims, and a lot others too. -- -- |

I know of a Black prowler that is sitting in the showroom of Barry's Chrysler Dealership in Ephrata, WA. The Kat belonged to the owners father who passed away several years ago. It was the nicest kat I have seen. The front suspension is all chromed out. He has large chrome tach, and chrome rings around all the gauge. The car is immaculate. I do not know if it is for sale. the tcm records the mileage and vin,the only way to change it is at the dealer and they wont do it. ------------------ |

If you're only interested in black, prowler emil, be aware that the stock bumpers on a 1999 are noticeably more gray, whereas those on a 2000 are noticeably more black. |

I'm not worried at all--once I select the prowler I like first mod is removing all of the bumpers and doing the tom mills belly pan, tom mills, turn signal relocation, and exhaust...hell I'll look at a prowler that has damaged bumpers too! |
