I just got this in today's mail. I know several of us use Discount Tire for our tire mounting needs. This particular letter was referencing my (now sold) minivan, but I have used them for my needs on my other vehicles as well. Their valve stems, supplied by Dill Air Controls (an industry leader supplier of valve stems for tires), are cracking prematurely, and can leak at unpredictable rates, causing underinflated tires, possible tire failure, loss of control, and death. One death and several accidents has already been attributed to this issue. Notice that these valve stems are likely to be used by your prefered tire stores as well, not just limited to Discount Tire. Go to www.DTCcares.com or call 1-888-356-0262 to schedule an appointment. They will replace your valve stems for free. They recommend IMMEDIATELY visiting your local Discount Tire store if you have noticed air loss in any of your tires. To those of you that have recently changed wheels on your trailer, you may want to have your trailer wheels checked out as well. I had a flat, and a flat spare on my trailer recently, that were valve stem related. I will be taking them back as I get a chance. |

We had several valve stems replaced by Tire Discounters. Do you know how you can look at them and tell which ones they are? Sandy was having a fit for awhile. I may have finally taken her car to work and had them replaced, I don't remember for sure. |

Call before you make an appointment. I have 3 vehicles with Discount Tire valve stems but only one fell under the recall. There is no way to tell by looking at the form. Since I hauled cars in for repair that didn't qualify, I had them rotate and balance so as not to waste a trip. One of the stems did go bad causing a flat. |
