Have a question for the guys and gals that have removed the fender from the bracket and put them back on with bolts instead of using the huck rivet

Serveral people have said carriage bolts but they have hex/square on the ends and the shop where the car is too said they cant get any that will fit it without making the holes on the fender bigger. Which I dont want them to do.

So what has people used? where did you get it? and what size? Sorry if this is a dummy question

Thanks,
Stephen

Do a search in Technical Question Forum on
fender huck
No bolt size mentioned but got 9 hits.
Maybe this might help.

returned your pm.also yon can go to a hardware store that has a large selection of bolts.there are other bolts available besides carriage, which have the square shoulder.i found some blk ones in the metric section.the only problem grinding off the shpulder is it may rust where you grind it.you could also coat the grind area w/some clear coat or clear lacquer.

I think the carriage bolts were mentioned for the fender and mud flap bracket. I don't recall anyone saying that for the fender bracket up top. It would be an easy mistake to make, for sure.
Rick Buehler, what did you use? What did I use? I don't recall. Mine are chrome.

I used a dome headed stainless steel fastner (bolt)with a square section under the head. The thread size is irrelevant as I used spring washers and nuts (all in stainless).
The only time consuming bit was making the fender and arced shaped plates to accept the square section.I had no hang ups with this though as I this is my line of business anyhow.
I had the domes highly polished and the plates and fenders were re-painted purple.
The whole job was very worthwhile indeed. So I would buy stainless, keep the square section, mod the plate and fender to accept a square section and thats it....
Once again thanks Ed for your help with me.
Stephen,I can send you some pics via e-mail if required?
