I am having to renew my plates. The Prowler taxes are just over $100 greater than that of either our 2004 Durango or the 2005 PT Cruiser. And the value guides are all over the Map as to the value. The following is what I pulled on our 1999 Prowler with 37,000 miles. Except for NADA all of the following seem to favor the dealer much more than a private owner.
Low Retail = $20,400, Average = $26,050, High = $31,800
Trade Private Party Suggested Retail
Trade In = $15,549 Private Sale = $17,990 Dealer = $20,531 This message has been edited by BeWare on 09-17-2007 at 09:16 AM |

Most dealers actually use NADA,,,regardless of what they say. Although,,,,when trading for your vehicle, they usually figure it 80% of wholesale book because they usually have to detail, advertise, fix repairs, and adjust to the time on the lot before sold. Nice cars,,,,throw away the book and common sense judgement is used. Positive colors also add to values. This has nothing to do with your tax evaluation figure, which is usually fixed originally at MSRP to start,,,and 15% reduction each year thereafter. [in many states] |

Alley Kat hit this one right on the nose. Anything for sale, it is only worth what the market will bear. Let's not forget, this baby is not being made anymore. When I bought mine 6 months ago, I paid over $10,000 more than what Kelley Blue book said it was worth, but hell, I WANTED IT. So throw the Book away, it is only a "BLIND" guide at best. |

The book value is influenced by dealer and auction sales. Values are regional. For limited production or speciality vehicles you might check the completed sales on Ebay. There are several factors that come into play here: Not all dealers and auctions report sales values. Very few Prowlers are re-sold that are reported. There may not have been many re-sold in your region. The ones that are sold at wholesale auctions may not be in the best condition. The condition of a vehicle is subjective. In a private sale modifications have greater value.

I recently worked a deal for a Colo. buyer and seller with documentation on a 2000 black Prowler with around 10,000 miles. Did a comparison with Auto Trader, Cars.com, and info used from this site and other car sites. The bank would only lend $25,000 for a Prowler of that year according to the sources that they use. I proved the value at $35,000 and used my B.S. ability with my story writing talent to convince the bank with in hand documents. They cut him a check for $35,000 icing the deal getting the car out of one garage to a owner that will cruise with us... Some of you may remember my story of Henry's new car... I will be willing to offer my services again for free like I did for Henry to help out as always... Thanks, onecatnodog |

The above stated values also do not take into account a vehicle's exceptional care history, low mileage, custom paint, mods, and a vehicle's rarity value. They still regard the Prowler on paper as just any other vehicle "X" years old, with an original sticker price of "X". Should you happen to wreck and total your car, and are offered $25K from your insurance company, they should be able to provide you leads to purchase one for that price. If they can't, make 'em come up. This is where an agreed value policy helps. |

The numbers quoted are pretty much in line with my observations. Since many owners rarely drive their cars the market is flooded with low to very-low mileage Kats. It is a buyers market. Still not enough demand vs. supply to shift the Prowler values in favor of the seller. This message has been edited by lavka on 09-18-2007 at 10:29 AM |
