I am interested in painting my bumpers to match the body of my car. My question is, I have been to several body shops and was told that because of the material of the bumper (smooth/shiny?) the paint will chip and not hold. However, I have seen many Kats with the bumpers matching and was curious if this is how the later Prowlers came (mine is a 1999, Yellow) or if someone actually had theirs painted. I really think that updates the look and gives it that cleaner look. |

Any that you have seen other than black on black have been painted and I have never heard of any problem in doing it. |

The bumpers are plastic, just like almost every other bumper on every other car made in the past 10 or 15 years. If the guy thinks it will chip, tell him to sand it first. Does he strip every car down to bare metal before doing any repair work. Realistically, I would just go elsewhere. The guy does not sound like a very comptetent painter. I had my first 99 done in 2000 or maybe 2001. I did get a couple of chips in the back of the front bumpers from rocks hitting them. It was minimal. I had another set painted for the Candy in 2003 probably. No problems, although I wound up removing the front bumpers when I got the front end chromed. They need to put some flex in the paint. It is not that tough of a job. Good luck. Post pics when it is complete. There are over 100 Prowlers with painted bumpers, I am sure. |

Thanks guys. Sounds good to me. I was hoping that y'all would say that. The couple of shops I've checked out both cited the reason as being the texture of the plastic and that it had some kind of coating that would somehow prevent the paint from sticking. They have even mention about some special glue but would not guarantee the work. |

We had the bumpers painted the same body color of our '97. The difference is nothing short of dramatic! The only down side is that to do it right, they must be removed from the car. I agree with the advise to sand them first. There is no need to add a flex agent to the paint, as the plastic body is not all that flexible. You might try a light sand blast of the area of the "P R O W L E R" letters as well as any Plymouth/Chrysler letters that also may exist. Trust me, the end result is remarkable. Better yet, just try to find a Prowler owner who has done this simple mod who wishes he/she hadn't done it! |

Lots of the Prowler People here know how to Photo Shop and maybe some one could do the photo before the cars bumpers are done.. Keep posting Brother! |

Thanks for the info everybody. Another great reason for me to look forward to this great event coming up in Costa Mesa. Aside from the fact that it is for a great cause, this will be a great opportunity to check out other kats as Jim S. suggested. This will be Anna and I's first event so please say hello Jim and everybody. Also Onecatnodog was kind enough to post a picture of my baby so...... I'll appreciate anybody who cares to weigh in on whether or not the front bumper should be purple or yellow. ( Kat is yellow with purple flames) Thanks for the post of pic and thanks for the P.M. Jim S..... See you all @ the ridin' for a cure event next week. |

whatever bodyshop told you that stay away, they obviously have no idea what they are talking about.cost to repaint 1 set 2 about 400.00 to 450.00.paint must also have flex agent added to it or you may have problems. ------------------ |

quote: Personally, I would make them the same color as the forward most color of your flames. In that way, the bumpers will all but dissappear. |

I would make the front purple and the back yellow to match the colors of the car. Looks good. |
