Not knowing much abt prowlers I thought I wld go here to see what happens I found three cars one is 1999 red the other two are silver grey one of those is a 2000 has had two or three pre owners but has 5000 miles the other grey one is a 2001 clean one owner with 2000 miles have been reading comments and am hearing things like transmission problems tire sensors dead batteries stuff like that talked to local chrysler dealer he says for a mere 3000 I can put a bumper to bumper extended warranty on the car which in my opinion makes sense hv a 1962 vette and a 1965 vette and a 57 chevy but am tired of working on cars instead of going out to hv fun the prowler seems to be the answer..any comments??

Jim, you will love the fun and smiles you get with a Prowler. I have 2 2001's and have put 21,000 miles on the Mulholland & 16,000 on the orange one and have had extremely few problems. I got the Chrysler Max Care warranty extensions on both cars. Warranty work has been, front shocks on both cars, 5 speakers in the sound system, total between 2 cars, and replacement of the unequal length control arms and bushings on the Mulholland. Warranties cost me $1,865 and $1,673 and are good through July 2008, Mulholland, and November 2009 on the orange.
My thought would be to find a nice used one with 20 to 40 thousand miles that is still under warranty and only costs 40 to 50 bucks to transfer. Your initial investment will be much less and you will not lose value in a year + of driving. Then go after a low mileage, garage queen and get a dealers warranty on it. I am considering selling the Mulholland, 31,300 miles, Max Care to 50,000 mile/July 08, excellant condition, well maintained, still pulls trophies at car shows etc. E-mail if interested, can send pic's. Good Luck. Jim

Jim,
I thought the same thing. I love cars, and have owned many. classic old Corvettes, street rods, kit cars, and Mustangs. As beautiful as they were I was tired of always working on them, and not having the newer niceties such as Air, power steering, brakes windows etc. I just bought a 99 purple Prowler with 47,000 miles here in California. I was torn on buying a newer Corvette, or the Prowler. I went with the Prowler because of the rarity of not seeing many out and about, and seeing Corvettes on every corner.
Now that I have owned it a few weeks I now also see
It has to be one of the most beautiful cars ever designed.
I also read about some of the problems, but the way I think 47,000 miles all the bugs are gone now drive and enjoy.

While the 2000 and newer have some stuff that the 1999 and earlier do not have, the mileage difference between all three would be of little concern to me. Buy the color you would most enjoy, between the two silvers if that is the dirrection you go buy the one that is in the best shape and enjoy driving it. jmho

Welcome Jim,
Do a search here for extended warranties. We had some dealers offering great prices on the Chrysler warranty.

Hi Jim,..... And welcome aboard!....

In my opinion, what you pay for your Prowler and what it's worth in a year, two years, or a hundred years from now makes no difference......You will NEVER own another car in your lifetime that brings you the excitement, joy and happiness that comes with that little roadster......

To prove my point, several years ago the poll question was "At what mileage do you expect to sell your Prowler?"....As I recall, more than 70% replied, "I'll NEVER sell my Prowler"....
Buy one and join the fun.....

Jim,
What color do you want? I would opt for the kat with the least amount of owners and the lowest miles.

I wouldn't let the problems of the Prowler worry you. It's just like any other american made car when it comes to its problems.

If you feel more comfortable by purchasing one with a warranty...then by all means...get one.

Just ask away when it comes to questions. Everyone here is always willing to help.

Good luck on your purchase.

Welcome Jim.............let's see pictures of the 62

Find the car you like and drive the wheels off it. I didn't buy the warranty when I bought my car new. It might be worth it but it is just an insurance policy they will make more money than they spend.

As the cars age they will need some repairs. Will the cost of the warranty cost more than the repairs in the time frame?
How much do you plan on driving it?

Get the color you want will be the best car. And a car that has been sitting might not be as good as one that has been driven some. Seals dry out from non use.

Plan on Tulsa to meet a nice large group of Prowler owners

Oh did a say PICTURES OF THE 62 PLEASE

Jim I have a 2002 (witch by the way is the fastest) I have stuck a few buck's in it but what you going to do? If you drive it it will coast you money. If you feel comfortable buying a ex warranty do so, But you can buy it from one of your dealer at $100.00 above coast and you will have pace of mind (UNLIKE ED, WHO HAS NO MIND)

Hey, Jim. Greetings from a Corvette owner. I currently have a '65 BB vert and an '01 vert. I bought my '99 red Prowler in December from a Dodge dealer in Virginia.

The car had 3,500 miles on it and I had some concerns about an eight-year-old car that hadn't been driven any more than that. So, I asked the dealer to throw in a 3-year, 45K mile bumper to bumper warranty.

He didn't go for that, but did give me the warranty at his cost -- significantly less than $3K. So far, I haven't needed the warranty. The car seems to be in excellent condition and, after 1,500 miles of use, the only problem I've had was that the hood didn't want to stay up when it was raised.

Good luck on your purchase.

Jim - welcome to POA. Other than finding a car in good shape, the only question is which color do you like best. As other have posted you may be able to do better than $3K for an extended warranty.
