I have just been told that my Prowler is not Worthy to take part in Cruisin the Coast because all newer model vehicles have to have at least 5 modifications. Is this typical? I can not believe they would Shut Out a vehicle that was built to pay tribute to the Beauty and Design of the Classic American Car. The director explained to me that she knows of only five Prowlers in existence that have been modified (which leaves me to question if she even knows what a Prowler is after such a rediculous statement) and it would fall into a classification of any newer model and would have to have Mods! So the Prowler doesnt belong.... but a lowriding S-10 would fit right in? Is she serious? I know that a lot of classic car owners modify their cars but in the same right a great deal choose to simply restore their car to its original Beauty.I appreciate the desire for making a car your own design or putting your stamp on it but isnt there something to be said for those who think the Craftmanship and Beauty of the original is worthy? Dont get me wrong I am sure that someday I will want to "Tweek" my car a little but I just dont understand why they feel its a requirement. I will still be going as a spectator and I am very tempted to hunt down some of the organizers and get some better reasoning. I am new to all this so if this is the typical attitude than I am Truly Shocked!!

What qualifies as a "modification?"

For about $20 you can "chrome" your grill with door edge guard, replace the tire valve caps with chrome caps, add mud flaps (front & rear...is that 2?), ceramic brake pads (sooner or later you'll need them), chrome gear shift bezel if your's didn't come stock that way and that wind break "thingy" that attaches to your trunk deck lid when your top is down....Ask any Prowler purist....those are mods!!

After a few years of accepting the Prowler as a tribute to the Hot Rod, the Good Guys shows in Columbus, OH also said they were not allowed...... Too New. Had nothing to do with Modifications. My problem with that is all of the Brand Spankin new Hot Rods that people purchase bodies, motors etc. from people like The Rod Shop, and build them and they are titled as 2006 models.... Oh well.

ProwlinTheCoast...welcome to the world of Prowlers in show car circuits. For over 6 years now we have faced this discrimination with many successes. One being allowed into the Turkey Rod Run in Daytona Beach that is held over the Thanksgiving long weekend.
Due to our recent relocation this year, we did not have the time to plead our case to the fullest with the Cruisin' the Coast officials. Although we presented our case early on with a typical biased response, we did not have time for a rebuttal. Please email me for more info etc. I look forward to talking to you. By the way, I am from MS.
You can also do a search for past topics posted in regards to Cruisin' the Coast in previous years. We had a large contingency during the years of 2001-2003 before they changed the rules in regards to allowing Prowlers in. Laddie Roussel from Mandeville LA, was largely to thank for organizing these past events at Cruisin' the Coast.

Looking forward to hearing back from you. Enjoy your cat!!

ProwlingtheCoast, During "Cruisin the Coast" if you are not registered you can still take part in almost everything. You would not be able to get into the poker run and you might not be able to park in the main parking lot but there are so many cars just driving in the area that you really do not have to be official. We had enough Prowlers that we had our own car show. Some of the official stuff was so crowded that the wait in line was a pain. More fun just to go and enjoy yourself and enjoy all the folks who enjoy looking at your unacceptable car. Just my opinion.

The Prowler is a stock modern car, if not modified. Ok, it is a factory HotRod. On most ClassicCar or Street Rod (...pre49) Events, you can not join the Show in your Kat. Goodguys have in CA three AllAmerican Shows with not cut up year, that welcomes Prowler and all other modern Rides, most others Goodguys Shows are pre 72.
The Turkey Run in Daytona has a Prowler-Special. All other newer Cars have to pre enter and they have to have at least 5 oder 6 major body mods too.
For me thats OK. Where is the border ? If they let stock Prowlers in classic car shows, they have to acceped SSR´s, modern Mustangs, my neighbours SLR, 300er Limos, Miatas, my new Audi.......
We do on some classic car meetings -Specials ( like Prowler-Special, SSR Special). It shows the Public modern technik cars in retro design. The public feedback as always good.

Prowlers and Vipers were welcome to GoodGuys when Chrysler was a major sponsor. The year they dropped the sponsorship GoodGuys dropped the Prowlers from being involved.

I have shown my car plenty and it is not well resceived at many shows with the HOT ROD CROWD.

At one show I knew I would not be able to take it to I ask the guy in charge if I could bring it and he said NO IT IS A NEW CAR!

Well sitting just a few feet away was his 33 ford fiberglass body with late model engine and trans, Jag or Vette rear end and I doubt the guy built it.

I didn't really care. I don't want to go someplace I'm not wanted. The PROWLER always draws a crowd, I don't think they like the fact it takes away from their car. I have heard this a a really good show and at some point I will take my Dart.

As far as Cruisin the coast they have tried to make it more for the HOT RODS and old cars. I really don't blame them for that. Just go to any BIG cruise and see how many older special cars are cruising.............VERY DAM* FEW because so many trucks and SUV's and pieces of crap DIRTY JUNK daily drivers are there.

As many have stated you can go, you can cruise, you just are not involved in the SPECIAL EVENTS they have scheduled. You will probably have as much or more fun than those that are registered in the event.

IF the area is not in any better shape than what ED said it was earlier this summer I would think it will not be a BIG turn out this year.

GO and HAVE FUN and come back and report on the situation. Be the POA cruise reporter. Make some fake media badges and tell them you are covering the event for POA.

The guy down the street from me told me several years ago to built a car built before 48 so it could go to all the shows, but that isn't true. A buddy tried to take his 37 Tudor rod to the street machine nationals and they told him "IT'S TOO OLD". They only wanted Muscle cars from th 60's up.

Are you sure they didn't think you were talking about a PT Cruiser? Nothing against PT Cruisers of course. I had quite a few people think I was talking about a PT Cruiser when I talked about my Prowler. After they see it they realize its a completely different car.

When some Dodge and Chrysler salesmen are clueless about what these cars are (or were when selling them), most street folks are totally ignorant about these cars.

I've been told it's a Viper, they come in coupe/convertible, can be ordered with 6-speed, a V8 was an option, etc.

So tell them it has 15 mods on it. Used to be a coupe, used to have a v8, used to have a 6-speed, used to have.....

Here is another discussion about a similiar situation and how we handled it:
http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/012610.html

We have now put a plaque on the car that says "This car is not for judging" and then we don't have to worry about classes or whatever. Just go to the show and have a good time.

I've never been turned away from a show and I'd like to think that the car has done very well at the shows we go to. To be invited to the Fresno AutoRama which is as much of a hot show there is and this is a by invitation show only. If you build your car correctly, you won't have a problem.

I went to two shows of the local group "Prowlers" who claim they gave DC the name for our cat.

You would think the "officials" of Cruisin' the Coast event would have been a little more lenient with their rules this year of all years. Afterall, that entire area was nearly destroyed because of Katrina last year. It would make sense to want to attract as many to the MS Gulf Coast as possible.

Agree with Ed that you certainly can attend without registering but is that as much fun, fun, fun?

Thankyou guys for all your advice...I think it was said best by an entry in the link Pumpkin provided..."In a Prowler Everyday is a Car Show"......I am going to all the events and I have decided that I will take an instant camera and take pictures of the kids that are really interested in the car and give out the Maisto Candy Red Prowlers that CJ so gratiously provided and answer all the usual questions including my Favorite "Did you have this car made?" and of course I reply, as any respectable woman in my position would, with "I sure did...I just sat down and drew it up and told my husband to make it happen." But to date I have had offers to trade for ..A Dodge Ram truck complete with Bass Boat.... His and Hers Motorcycles.....a couple of kids.... along with 3 offers of Marriage...and one "Do you have an Old Man?"...and my favorite of all...a very manly woman that said and I quote..."Hubba...Hubba" as I pulled into the gas station..all this and I have only had my Prowler a few months...So I am pretty sure I could not possibly be missing out on much by not being an OFFICIAL Entry in the cruise. I think I would actually start to feel guilty if it were any more fun to drive my car. Most important of all my 14 yr old son has decided that I am the coolest Mom ever after seeing the lead singer of the group Nickelback has a prowler on an episode of MTV Cribs. But being a Typical Woman and needing the last word I still insist on hunting down the Director and telling him how misguided he is in shutting out a car that brings new interest to Hot Rods and Shines the light on cars that were designed to be about the Ride and not the destination. Just cant let it go!! Gosh dont you just love us???

The Prowler is a Car Show all by itself. Still today they come out of restaurants in small towns to see and ask about the car. These folks are glad you stopped by. Happy to see you. And the car is a hit with all ages, starting with the little kiddies on up.

Now it always did miff me how goodguys turned on a dime the day Chrysler stopped throwing money at em. Prior to that, Prowler was the feature at their front gate. I haven’t looked up the word hypocritical in Websters recently but I suggest Goodguys do so. My take at the time was that they were like a politician awaiting the next lobbyists check book to see what their position was going to be.

That said, my hunch is that Goodguys knew they were in trouble when they saw the introduction of the pt cruiser—they knew those cars were about to become 10 cents a dozen. So they had to do an about face quick and get their lines drawn in the sand. I would like to think that they struggled over this point at a few meetings though, after they cashed all of Chrysler’s checks.

As it is, I take old cars to events where they are always welcome. But compared to small towns, I don’t feel so welcome. I’m lost among so many. Whatever I’m driving is just 10 cents a dozen on show day.
