My girlfriend Kelly and I have been in Tulsa since Friday evening...doing some ground work for the 2007 event. We are staying at the Embassy Suites hotel where the event will be held. We checked out the hotel when we selected it in January, but we hadn't actually stayed here.

I must say that we are very impressed! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The Manager's reception with free drinks in the afternoon is nice, and the breakfast buffet is outstanding! The rooms are very nice and the bed is extremely comfortable. We have had absolutely NO issues that we had to bring to the staff's attention.

This evening we ate at Cattleman's Steakhouse in the hotel lobby. It was a very classy dinner experience and the food was very good as well.

The hotel staff informed us that they have changed their pet policy since we were last here...they are now a "pet friendly hotel" and they allow just about any pet. A $50 deposit is required with $25 of that refundable.

We spent most of the day today planning out a scenic cruise route in eastern Oklahoma. We are very excited about the drive we have planned. I must admit...the drive would have been more fun if I still had my Prowler. I'll upload pics on Sunday night when we get back.

On our way home to Okc tomorrow, we will travel down historic Route 66 from Okc to Tulsa. One of the events will be a day trip to Okc...and I figured Route 66 would be a better drive than a boring old turnpike!

We are really looking forward to everyone coming to Tulsa next year....it's gonna be a great time!

Zack, thanks for the update. Reading it got my juices flowing for the big event. Can't wait. I sure hope we sell out the hotel so we have the parking lot all to ourselves.

Zack,Sounds good to me,can't wait. Don't know if it will top the time we had at Louisville. Thanks for the update. Hope it isn't as wet in Tulsa as it was in Louisville.

We just made it home (via Route 66) in time for me to get to work this afternoon. The Tulsa to Okc trip on 66 is really nice. It's mostly 2 lane with some fun s-curves and lots of trees. It passes through several small towns where route 66 is the Main street of their old downtowns. The drive was only about an hour longer than the turnpike and much more interesting.

Here are a few pics from the Route 66 drive...

And here are a few from the senic drive we mapped out. It's about 200 miles...with a nice break for lunch at a State Park Lodge overlooking a lake. The drive follows 2 rivers and 2 lakes...and lots of nice scenery!

Zack, the drives look awesome. Thanks for doing this. It was really good talking with you yesterday. I am getting more and more excited myself. I did not get that email sent to you yesterday as we had a family thing which I had forgot about and we got home late. I will send it today for sure. Thanks for planning out these routes.

This morning's newspaper reported that a 25 mile stretch of state highway 10 was closed due to a wildfire dropping rocks and fireball onto the roadway. This is part of the senic drive we took on Saturday...actually...it was the most senic. The photos above with the rock formations and winding roads are taken from Hanging Rock...which is mentioned in the article.

Fire closes 25 miles of road running near Illinois River

TAHLEQUAH - A fire on a bluff overlooking the Illinois River shut down more than 25 miles of State Highway 10 on Monday, officials said. Authorities closed the highway from Tahlequah to U.S. 412 when rocks and fireballs began falling on the road.

The fire was creating the most problems near Hanging Rock, said David Meuser, spokesman for Oklahoma’s Department of Transportation. Rocks loosened by burning trees and brush in the 15-acre blaze were falling onto the roadway below, Meuser said.

State transportation officials anticipated the highway would remain closed until about noon Tuesday.

The fire started about 2:15 p.m. Monday, but was difficult to fight because of steep bluffs and other rough terrain, said dispatcher Dale Lenz of the forestry services division of Oklahoma’s Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry.

“It’s real rough country up there, and it’s going to take them a while to put it out,” Lenz said.

“It’s a hazardous place to work,” he said.

Ed Fite, administrator of the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission, said firefighters had set back-fires to stop the blaze’s advance.

“There are some areas you can’t even climb,” he said.

Still, he anticipated the fire be controlled unless windy conditions became a problem.

“As soon as it burns itself out, they will open the road up,” Fite said.

I can already see Bell's cat parked on the side of this building for his photo shoot:

Don't know if it can top his last Coke picture that he personally was in
