There is a guy on Autotrader.com that is trying to sell his Candy Red for $55k (!!!) because he states it is number 3 out of 301 made. When asked how he can tell that, he stated that the dealer told him it was from the last three digits of the VIN. The Candy Red I'm buying has 763 as the last three. How can that be? I don't think he was correct or the dealer was mistaken. Anyone know for sure? Thanks.

By the way, I found this:
11th character- Identifies the assembly plant for the vehicle.

12th to 17th characters- VIS - Vehicle Identifier Section. The last 8 characters of the VIN are used for the identification a of specific vehicle. The last four characters shall always be numeric. Identifies the sequence of the vehicle for production as it rolled off the manufacturers assembly line.

You can look on the owners registration page and see the other VIN numbers.
They run from 1735 to 2530 for the last four digits. Viper numbers are interspersed with Prowler VIN numbers. You can read the entire story here on the POA.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that CJ's is the 2nd Candy produced.

Thanks for the replies - I thought the guy was blowing a lot of smoke. Wished him luck getting $55k for his Candy. Nice Prowler TUIB. I hope to add the hardtop when mine is delivered. Anyone know where to get a good deal on an extended warranty?

Believe our friend at the dealers, Jeff Hunter, has obtained the DC extented warranties for a discounted price. I just don't have his #, but it has been posted many times.

At the very bottom of the Owner's registry on the main menu, there is a description of the VIN sequence.
