I can't wait to get on the road. Tentative route is as follows. From Seattle, I'll take I-90 to buffalo Wyoming and then take I-25 to Denver Colorado, then take I-70 to St.louis, then take I-64 to Louisville. I work weds. and am planning on leaving on Thurs morning, Any guesses on when.. or if I get to Louisville? Any better route ideas? I'm trying to avoid Chicago, Everyone I've spoken to says to stay away due to toll roads and road direction confusion. Any truth to this? Would like to get there on sat. Any chance of meeting up with anyone part way there? SEE YA ALL IN LOUISVILLE. |

At times you could have long delays at each toll booth. The traffic tends to back up. If you prefer NOT to spend your time on the expressway, I would highly recommend taking US 36 from just east of Denver all the way to Indianapolis. It is just a two lane road but there is virtually no traffic. You are not fighting the semis all the way, less rock chips, much more relaxing. You will have to go thru a few small towns but overall you can still make great time. You can take the expressway down to Louisville from Indy or look for another route a little farther west to travel south. This message has been edited by ed monahan on 07-03-2006 at 05:02 PM |

thanks for the info. that sounds like a much better way.is there a way to tell witch roads are toll roads on the map? And will I have enough gas stations on 36. thats the main reason I planned on major interstates was I figured lotsa gas available. The wife seems to have approx.220 mile radius between fill ups. It's my first time driving that far from home, not sure what to expect in the way of services in the more outlying areas. P.S. is there a prize for the farthest driven, like say a lot of gas money.lol This message has been edited by marvin gohl on 07-03-2006 at 05:22 PM |

Marvin, there are some towns with gas stations. On the road out west I try to fill up once it drops below 1/2 tank or so. At least start looking for them. As you get farther east, it is more populated and more little towns. 36 is the old Pony Express Route. Look for the silhouette outlines on the hillsides from time to time. It is a much more relaxing drive, for sure. What you spend in higher gas prices you will make up in much lower motel prices. Still some old mom and pop joints along the way. Plus you get to see "Fields of amber grain" and maybe a sunflower farm, etc. |
