is it possible that leaving something rather heavy (no dead body) in the passenger seat would cause the alarm to sound? I was drivin last week with a gym bag in the floorboard area in fornt of the passenger seat and had a box of files on the front seat. I went into a convenience store and the alarm went off afeter a few minutes. I thought I must have hit the panic button by mistake. I remived the box when I got home and the alarm neve sounded again. Today I picked up a 16 HP riding mower engine and had it in a box on the front seat (don' cringe - remember mine in a daily driver!) Is there a sensor of some type connecting the passenger seat and the alarm? The seat belt fastened sensor maybe? |

I have left my wife in the Kat (also a daily driver) and set the alarm by mistake when I have run in to the store. Alarm never went off. Don't know if this helps but mine has never falsed. |

How good are the factory alarms? How does it work... if the doors open or the car is started without the alarm being turned off 1st????? Yes / No? |

The factory alarm has been fine up until the last few days. I bought my car used on ebay and didn't get an Owner's Manual. When you lock the door with the key fob the alrm is activated until you unlock it with the keyfob or key. If the decklid, hood, or doors are opened the horn honk and lights blink. My car came with an expensive aftermarket alarm with remote start/smart windows/etc but I didn't get the programming remote and it was set to go off if anyone got within two feet which meant parking it in any parking lot and setting the alarm was out of teh question. I removed the aftermarket alarm and have been using the the factory one. |

Has anyone had any problems with them? I have had issue with my vipers factory alarms when the car battery is get low. The car will run and start just fine, but the alarm will start acting up until I put a new battery in the car. I was changing the battery in the remote fob... the whole time it was the car batteries! |

I set my alarm off 2 times the other day by leaving the keys in my back pocket and hitting the panic button some how. I thought the wife was messing with me from inside the house while I was in the garage, then I realized they were in my pocket. I was going to post to see if there was a way to turn off the panic function.

My Manual is at Westech's shop in Wisconsin and I don't have a Owner's Manual. Could someone look up the sections on the alarm system tell what the triggers are that set off the alarm - hood?, doors?, decklid? anything else? Thanks

MARTY--- Here ya go... I read all of section 8Q -- Vehicles equipped with the Vehicle Theft/Security System(VTSS), the doors, deck lid, hood and ignition circuit are monitored by teh BCM when the system is armed. The VTSS requires '16' consecutive seconds to time out and arm the VTSS. ------- Section 8B deals with the passenger side seat belt not being buckled but only refers to the chime/buzzer activation, not the 'alarm'... are all the other functions of your RKE remote keyless entry fob working okay? ...if not, you might want to check the RKE module under the dash... just a thought... |

Marty, have you tried just locking the car with the Door Lock Button on the trim panel when you get out? I dont think that turns the alarm on...You can use your remote to open the car when you return. Been so long since I used a key to open any door, I dont know if I remember which way to turn it. (LOL) Buddy |

Try the seatbelt thing, buckle it up with weight in the seat, and see if it still happens. I'm pretty sure the alarm activates even when using the key to lock....interesting. |
I stopped at a rest stop and befire I could get a soft drink from the vending machine the alarm was sounding - again I though I must be hitting the panic button. When I got home I left the motor sitting in the seat and the alram went off twice.
