Just a general question. I was wondering the pros and cons of getting a weekender vs picking up say a small gold wing motorcycle trailer. All said and done it will cost about the same. I know the trailer will have a little more cubic space but then I will have to register it, store it and remove it when I get to any specific destination. On the other hand If I do the weekender thing I will also have to store it. Maybe damage it putting it on and off even worse damage my car etc.. Does it have adequate space, if I do use it will I be taking it off and one all the time? Just wondering other prowler owners thoughts. |

On and off is your own decision. My only concern is remembering to drop it down before opening the decklid, but that comes fast, especially if you leave it on. Maybe only take it off at a motel if you're not with a group. Ample room for 2 duffles+. |

We have a weekender, and it has enuf EXTRA space for us, is easy to attach & remove...matter of 5 mins either way! We found that we used it so little, we took it off and only use it for our few overnight/weekend trips! I have pulled trailers both with cars AND motorcycles but I prefer the weekender because it basically takes up ZERO extra parking space and you can't even see it behind you in the mirrors, so it does not obstruct our view! True it is small, but how much crap are you planning on dragging from point A to point B? Seriously, probably very little. It's not like you're packing for the kids, right! Anyway, I love the size, portability, weight, ease of attaching, etc. I'm sure Realrod Bob will give me kudos for these words, but, it's all true. I love the weekender--even when it's off! ------------------ |

Jim, Personally...I would rather carry around the Weekender vs. any trailer. JMO I think the Prowler trailer looks GREAT when it's being towed behind any color cat. The problem I would have is where to store it? Even with the trailer stand...I don't have enough room for it. You can either manufacture a stand for the Weekender or I believe Carbuff was offering an ALL aluminum stand for it. If you would like to see a Weekender in person, I can meet up with you to help you make your final decision. I just have to get mine shot by my bodyman first. Good luck on your decision! Brian |

I had my weekender put on over a year ago. I have no idea if it will ever come off. I love having it on, it also gets a lot of nice comments. I have yellow SHIMMERS and calipers with yellow pinstipping around the kat and weekender also. |

Thanks for all the feed back on this subject. your comments reinforce the fact that the weekender is a better way to go. My intent is when I travel with the wife or just a get away I want to be able to take some overnight stuff and be able to shop... well the wife likes to shop. As for me I would rather go to the dentist. Brian I will take you up on seeing your weekender. P.S. I purchased an Air Patrol. It installs in a snap, looks great, appears to block some wind. It was worth the wait. It did take some time to get it but the quality is great. |

Another consideration is that in some states (i.e. California) a car with a trailer is limited to 55 mph and the right 2 lanes on the freeway with all of the 18 wheelers. Mike |

Nice comments about the weekender and I can understand each and everyone. But my opinion differs. I love the tag along trailer and think when being pulled it is a great compliment to the car. True I seldom use it and it is a storage issue. All considered I still love it and would never think of selling it. |

Another added bonus to the weekender is that when people ask you what that is on the back of your car, you can just say matter-of-factly, "What? Oh, that... that's my parachute." You'll LOVE their reaction! This message has been edited by idive on 05-11-2006 at 08:45 PM |

We love our weekender. Use it every now and then when we drive the kat. Its big enough to store everything we need to take too. Mikee is right... don't want to be limited to the slow lanes with a kat!! ------------------ |

I too evaluated the weekender vs the trailer. We went with the factory trailer. They are getting rarer and prices are going up. I would not be surprised in 10 yrs them doubling in price. We chose the trailer primarily due needing more storage space on our trips. The weekender is a good for small amount of personel items for say a weekend, but if your planing on buying stuff your going to run out of room to store it quick. What I am saying they both have their place as far a accessories go. Hope this helps. Steve |

I love my factory trailer. When I got it there was not weekender since Ed (Bob's dad) had not made it yet. I would still go with the factory trailer, BUT would love to have a weekender.....there is no reason to ever take it off the car since it looks so DAM* good on the car The small trailer is a pain in the AS* to back up if you can at all. You have to be able to see it to back it Get a weekender and if you run across a factory trailer get it too. Many are right about pulling the trailer in some states about the lower speed limit and another thing to remember, TOLL BOOTHS...it cost us about $30 to drive around Chicago on the way to Power tour kick off last year more than double the cost of just the car. Had to go thru the manned booth with everyone else in big rigs and trailers |

I think the name "weekender" seems to imply that it is for trips! I use it as a trunk. It's there all the time and holds everything you need, when you are on the go. It's a trunk for a Prowler.love mine! sandy g. |

Weekender = No Additional annual cost Trailer = Annual state registration and insurance. Weekender = small road trips An analytical point of view. |

I too debated this same question all through this past winter. I ended up with the factory trailer. I don't have a storage problem (I can leave it connected to the kat in my garage). I haven't used it yet for a trip but I have brought it to a few shows. The only drawback to the trailer is finding parking at busy locations. If you want to see a facory trailer, lets meet sometime and you can look it over. Do the trucks actually drive 55 in those states? |

The original question was to compare a mototcycle trailer to a Weekender. Between those two choices I would go with the Weekender. The Weekender offers more advantages from my point of view. For week or longer vacations I would still prefer the Prowler Trailer. This message has been edited by Marty Usher on 08-01-2006 at 09:18 AM |

When we first got our Kat, I purchased the Mopar rack and bag and that is all we used for the first two years. Thanks to WildCat and some others, they convinced my wife that we needed a trailer. Now, we use the trailer for everything, short and long trips. My wife is a shopper and I never have to be concerned about not having enough room if she buys things. Personally, I would go for the trailer, but storage considerations are not an issue for me. As for registration, here in PA, I do that once every 5 years for the trailer.....no big deal. |

It kinda depends on where and how long your going for... for me Texas ...I needed a trailer , I decided on a motorcycle trailer.....just big enought for those long trips , where you need to carry lots of stuff... But if your single or have girlfriend who is a nudist.... Don |

I have both and for trips like Louisville, the trailer made life easier. I sometimes hook the trailer up behind the weekender and use the weekender for easy access items like cold drinks, chairs and jackets. If you attend many Prowler week long events, a trailer is very nice to have. |
