I was watching the first show of their new season and Dream Car Garage is doing a Z06 427 crate motor install on Speed Channel on a Prower http://www.dreamcargarage.com/ from their website "When the Prowler first hit the showroom floor the only complaint was the lack of an eight cylinder Engine. Dream Car Garage remedies this slight oversight by Chrysler with the addition of a brand new Z06 427 crate motor, hey isn’t that a Chevy engine. MOPAR guys don’t despair check out HEMI fest in our Satisfied Brake and Extreme Velocity Motorsports segments." ------------------ |

You know they will do an awesome job and it will send the prices of used Prowlers (especially with bad motors) through the roof! I wish it would have been something other than a Chevy but you will now see kits to do the install patterned after this project. Just think how cool one of the new 340 crate motors punched out to 440 cubes (see the latest issue of Hot Rod)would be! This message has been edited by Dale Beaman on 02-23-2006 at 08:26 PM |

I assume this is from the referenced post: http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/014308.html So that answers why it doesn't have Hemi in it. |

MOPAR doesnt want any of the new 6.1L hemis put in cars not as factory installed equipment. IF IF IF you can get a dealer to order you one as a factory replacement and MOPAR finds out that you put it in as a hotrod motor, they are actually trying to purchase the motors back from hot rod builders that are putting them in magazines. Meanwhile chevy will deliver a whole truck full of LS7s on y our driveway and help you put them in. Again, MOPAR kills its own client base with management decisions. This was highlighted in last months issue of MOPAR magazine. paul b yorkville, IL |

And people wonder why a lot of the old hotrods have Chevy power. |

Sorry guys, The Hemi isn't that great of an engine. It's not even a true Hemi. The port air flow thru the cylinder heads is marginal, and the valve train has some major deficiencies. The twin spark plugs do offer superior idle stability, but above 2,300 RPM offer no benefit. The Hemi is a very large, heavy engine as compared to the LS7. If I had the coin, the LS7 would be my first choice as a retrofit along with a Vett transaxle, if it would package. I still don't know if the Prowler frame could handle all the torque! It all comes down to horse power per pound. |

quote: You have great technical insight. I am having the Prowler built by Legendary, hosts of Dream Car. Actually, I really wanted the Hemi however there was not enough HP in the 5.7 and the bottom end is too weak to super charge. We could not get a 6.1 what so ever so being a GM employee, I was happy to get one of the first LS7s out of the plant. We may at some later date super charge it but want to see how this one works without it.The engine dropped right in with headers looking like they were made for the Prowler it fit so well. The work they are doing is stunning front to back with mechanicals, brakes all new plumbing etc. seeming as it came off the production line as is. |

If the LS7 is a 427, isn't that the big block? If so, why would it be that much lighter than a small-block Hemi? In any case, any engine that can push a 5000 pound Jeep Commander through the quarter-mile in 13.2 seconds must have a LOT of steam! It was a 6.1 liter Hemi, tested in the current Car & Driver, if I remember right. |

The LS7 427 is a small block engine. |
