My wife's boss needed a car with a trunk, so we traded for the weekend and I get to drive their 2003 Porsche 911 Turbo. HOLY COW! I never imagined a car would come close to the speed of my motorcycle, but this one is close. Handles like it is on rails, and boy do I miss a manual transmission. Once the Prowler is paid off, I'll definitely get a true driving sports car next. So I was curious with all the owners out here, what's the fastest ya'll have driven/own. Many Vipers I'm sure, I also saw someone with a Lambo or two. Also what is the best handling car? Does a Viper just go strait fast or does it corner like a beast as well? Nothing beats the Prowler for looks and cruising, but speed sure is fun too... Scott |

The fastest car I ever owned was a '71 Nova with beefed up samll block Chevy engine. It would run the 1/8 mile in the upper 7's. I had a '88 Corvette Convertible that was fastest top speed I ever drove - 153 MPH My fastest Motorcycle was a reworked Honda 750 back in the mid 70's. I would get scared usually once it reached 140 and never got it to it's true top speed. I've had the Prowler up to 132 at the Chelsea proving Grounds 4 mile banked track a couple of years ago. Fastest boat I drove was racing hull Baja - I believe I got it up to 84 MPH. I just remember without a windshield and laying almost flat on my back my face felt like it was going to be blown off - totally different than that speed in a car or on a motorcycle. |

fastest I have driven...I had one of my Vipers past 175mph fastest car I have driven...a 96 Viper GTS that belongs to a friend of mine...it is running 900rwhp and has turned 9 second quarters...I pulled out from a light and nailed it.....it kept me shifting gears so fast I hardly had time to pay attention....a few seconds later I looked at the speedo and it was flashing past 145...slowed down and took a side street the rest of the way home...what a blast !!! |

Old days. A factory 72 Pontiac G.T.O. 455 High Output Ram Air. No idea what it was running clocked. Past 145 on the speedo and pegged. Very stable car at that speed also. One speeding ticket. Stopped driving it after that. |

Just under 150 in a Mitsubihi 3000GT VR-4 about 5 years ago on a cross country trip with a buddy. We were in Northern Arizona around Flagstaff, and you could almost feel the air being sucked out of the windows wich were rolled up. The 600CL we had a couple of weeks ago was faster than an SRT-8 and way quieter. It was so quick it was scary. Don't really think of a Benz that way but a 5.5L twin turbo V12 definately has some juice! |

Believe it or not one of my fastest speeds was in my Factory stock 1965 421 HO PONTIAC CATALINA 2+2. and By todays standard considered a BIG BOAT Over 135-MPH that's where the speedo cable broke. But Given the Catalina 2+2 year, size & weight and on a dollar for dollar basis, to this day there are very few factory Cars ever made that could beat it's 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. Toys |

Fastest car I ever drove was a '94 Viper. Was a test drive that convinced me to get a Prowler (not a comfortable fit in that Viper). Quickest car was a '55 VW Beetle oval window. Amazing car, would run thru the 1/4 mile in the low 11's. Had a 2332cc engine with huge heads and 48 IDA's with 2 seats and a gutted interior. Loud, quick and scary. Saw a video not long ago of this same car smoking a Viper in the quarter mile. Funny stuff. |

1970 Plymouth Superbird 440 six-pack: 150+ mph (actually well past that but the speedo only registers 150) - Car had plenty left but I backed down before the bias ply tires gave up on me. Also drove 170 mph in a Richard Petty Driving Experience stock car at Talladega. |

My sisters 2005 M5 has no speed limmiter, I was several times around 190mp/h on the autobahn. I drove a gallardo and other toys. But, fast is one thing, powerful a other. Non of them is powerful. Powerful is a 502cid chevy or a 8.01 Hemi with a blower in a street rod. This message has been edited by condor on 02-13-2006 at 12:04 PM |

My new 1967 Dodge Coronet R/T with a 440. I buried the needle past the 140 MPH speedometer. I also had a 55 Chevy with a 413 Cubic Inch Buick motor with a 4:55 rear end. No much top end but fast off the line. Used to eat 396's, 409's for lunch. I also had a 29 Ford Coupe with a 289, Car was very quick off the line also. It weighed less than 2000 lbs. But probably the fastest and most powerful car I ever drove was also in 1967. 427 Stingray Coupe that belonged to my neighbor. Most recent memorable driving experience was Super Kat's 1970 Super Bird with a 440. This message has been edited by BeWare on 02-13-2006 at 12:56 PM |

Fastest I have ever driven in a car was Last 99 Corvette convertibel on the way out to NCRS National meet in Sun Valley, ID. We crossed into Montana and the five of us opened 'em up to just over 155 ... with the top down! Things move by pretty quick at that speed. fastest car I have ever driven, but not the fastest I've gone would probably be TUIB's SRT Viper that had buku engine work. Thank God it started to drizzle as we had to cut the jont short and headed back safe and sound ... but I sure could feel the power (thanks again Mr. Bell ... was memorable!) |

As part of my old business I worked on Meseritti's and from time to time I had Bora's in the shop. Their top speed was just the other side of 235 mph. So.. from time to time I would go out with the owners at locations which will remain nameless and Cruz them at 220 or so. Let me tell you at that speed you just don't want ANYTHING to go wrong. It was great fun but I just don't need to do that anymore. Nothing like the sound of a high performance rear eng. with a Z/F 6 speed that really has no syncro's'cus. there's not enough room for them in the box all right behind you while you "wizzzzz" down the road. You really didn't feel that you were going THAT fast 'till you looked at the speedo and realized you were the other side of the 2. I also got to "test" Meriac's, Giblies, and of course many Citroen SM's. They were fast for their day but nothing held a candle to the Bora---what a machine!!!!! It's one of the only exotic cars I would ever want to own, but of course to keep it up would be a real $$$$$challenge to say the least. Oh yes, fond memories!!! Obi-Wan |

Well over the years, I have raced different types of things. Drag raced, a C/Gas Vett, motor cross a 400 CC, raced 2 cycle go-karts, and different dirt track cars. I guess the most trilling was the open wheel, high wing, Outlaw dirt car. Now that thing was breath-taking. |

PharmKat, Neat post! I had a beloved 1966 Chevelle Super Sport that I raced. It turned 12.26 seconds in the quarter mile at about 119 MPH. Second was my souped up sleeper, a 1979 Mustang Cobra. It would do 12.80 seconds in the standing quarter at about 112 MPH with stock tires. Looked bone stock until you twisted the start key. I was fortunate enough to drive a 928 Porsche for 24 hours some years ago. I had it up to 160 MPH on a local freeway when the fear of being locked up forced me to hit the binders...hard! |

my prowler it's fast enough, i did have a bmw 840ci back in 92 that i took on the highway at 150mph i'm pretty sure i was nuts then.nowadays i'm more impressed with style than how fast a car goes, speed kills and i know too many people that have died as a result. I had the opportunity to go for a ride in a 2006 lambo marcigliano, we cruised along at about 60 and when we got back to the garage , the driver and owner stopped and then went to 72 miles per hour and back to 0 in 5.2 seconds ...wow those brakes are really worth 25k. Through the years I've driven and ridden in many fast cars that were MODIFIED from mild to wild. But as far as STOCK cars that were truly UNMODIFIED, my list is this: 1. 2001 CHEVY CAMARO SS. My buddy loaned it to me and I drove it from NW Las Vegas to the Strip. I had it up to about 150 and it handled like all four wheels had magnets on them. Incredible low end. Would melt the tires on command. Its a shame Chevy stopped making this car. 2. 1986 BUICK GRAND NATIONAL. Incredibly fast. I ordered this new. Beat everything that pulled up next to it. 3. 1987 BUICK GNX. My first one. I traded the Grand National in on this car and wasn't disappointed. Smooth, quiet acceleration, but BRUTAL!!! I even drag raced a Countach in downtown Chicago in this car - AND BEAT IT!! 4. 1970 MERCURY COUGAR XR7 (convert). Gorgeous red with white top and skinny tires. Had a 351 Cleveland under the hood and when I punched it, I lost control and hit a curb!! Unbelievably fast!! Too bad it wasn't mine. |
