hey..now everyone who knows me knows that i am a huge prowler fan. Finally 2006 came and im all set and ready to get me one. Heres the problem, i was driving around and ran into a beautiful, yellow 05 Lotus Elise convertible at a dealership. i test drove it and i fell inlove with it. i cant have both, i already own a gas guzzling LR3. dont know what to do. |

Everyone raves about the Elise. The Prowler is just different. Can't go wrong either way, but go for the Kat! ------------------ |

I agree. Both are very nice (albeit, very different) automobiles. I actually thought about purchasing a Lotus Elise a couple of months ago, but I just couldn't get past the looks of the car. It does strike you as "different," but in a sort of goofy way (especially the front end). To me, the Prowler is a rolling work of art. And although the Elise is the better-handling car (by far) of the two, I still prefer the Prowler. -Justyn |

From an old thread..but here's two orange side by side for comparison...we almost caused a pile-up on the Pasadena freeway..this one is a 2005, the 2006 Elise is even better. The Elise is tiny, not suitable for anyone who's tall/big. It does not have power steering/windows etc. My 0.02 is that it is a track car, even more than the Honda S2000. Kat and Elise -> different cars, different needs. U might want to check the Elise forums too if you still can't decide. This message has been edited by dreamcast18 on 01-31-2006 at 08:11 PM |

in my life I've been lucky enough to work on and own a number of very exotic cars. They were all neat in their own way but after some 77,000+ miles on my Prowler and mileage on a number of other Kats as well I've got to say that I'll still take my Kat, hands down any day. I'm down at the dealer several time each week ordering or picking up parts that come in right on time and the prices are reasonable for the quality of parts. I don't think you and say that for the Lotus (or other exotics). The parts are going to available down the road for Kats 'cus their used on so many other Chrysler models. The specific parts for the Prowler will always have crazy people like me that will, if pushed to it, make any part necessary. T just don't see the Lotus corp backing up their car down the road. There just won't be enough market share for them to keep it rolling. Years ago I was tied up with various English cars and I was truly not impressed with the parts availability, prices but most of all the attitude of most parts places. To say the least they didn't truly care all at the same time they were reaching into my pockets for all the bucks they could get. I had this happened a number of times over a long period of time. I was trying to help several customers take care of some really nice condition British cars and it all really got very "RUDE" to do any kind of business "over there". I also would like to throw a time machine about 10 or 20 years down the time slot and ask the simple question...Which car will be a CLASS ACT then??? Boy that's and easy question as I see it. The Prowler will shine PROVIDING THAT THE OWNERS CONTINUE TO CAMPAIGN THEM IN ALL VENUES with class and determination not to let these beautiful cars DYE as an orphan. That's my take on it and I hope every other owner too. It's all up to us !!!!!!!Thanks for letting me ramble, Obi-Wan |

All the dealers I have looked at the Lotus at have the targa top off. Try getting in and out with the top ON. Not easy at all. Go with the Kat and never look back. |

Both cars are very cool, but think how much the Elise could be worth down the road. Compare that to the proven high resale that Prowlers have. Now, it may be tough to think about the possibility of getting rid of a car when you don't even have it yet, but it is an excellent testimony to the uniqueness, rarity and desiribility of a Prowler! |

It's your money ultimately that you're spending and you have to decide which way. I think Lotus is a stellar automobile and totally different from the prowler.I've owned the prowler now for just over 5 years and it's been probably the most attractive and mechanically virtually problem free car I've ever owned. The other great reason for owning a Prowler is attending the events and meeting all these great folks that share the same passion.Might hold the same for Lotus...couldn't tell you. |

Of course posing this question to this board is not necessarily searching for an objective advise or recommendation. Nor is posting this question on the Lotus Board for that matter. Having said that, take a closer look at the pictures posted and you know Don't know for the Prowler. It has never been exported to Europe best regards, Kees ------------------ This message has been edited by kees on 02-01-2006 at 09:28 AM |

quote: They both look to be about the same length though. I'm not sure how the original poster could compare the two. Two totally different vehicles for two totally different purposes. If you love to auto-cross, do rallies, or want a spirited ride, the elise is the only way to go. I've been told by a number of folks that it is a total kick to drive. Yes, it's tiny, doesn't have alot of room, and it leaks when it rains. Ironically, those statements can be made about the Elise too! The engine in it isn't too big but, you are really not pushing that much around either. There are tons of clubs forming (or formed) for these and then new sister hardtop model due out (different name). Another difference is that one has a fresh warranty that starts now. The other may have some residual warranty left but, at best, you are buying a 4 year old vehicle. In the end, it honestly boils down to what you want to do with it. A Ferrari is great but, if you want to haul a boat, it's the wrong vehicle...... |
