My name is Roland from Annapolis Maryland and wish your advice on buying my first Prowler. My basic questions include: Which model year 1997-2001 is the best? Differences between the 1997 vs. 2001 years? What to look for in a good vs. not-so-good Prowler? Is there anyone near me (Route 50 @ Chesapeake Bay Bridge Annapolis) who would consider showing me their Prowler? Any advice buying v.i.a. e-Bay? What is a trailer worth? I sure would appreciate anyone who would be so kind as to take their time to help me, and will return the favor if possible. Y'ALL can contact me.... Low mileage, one owner, non-accident involved, garage queen with extended warranty purchased,,,, would be your best bet, but you'll spend a little more for them. All years are good,,if the car was well maintained, jmo. Here is a good example: http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum6/HTML/004043.html Good Luck This message has been edited by ALLEY CAT on 01-04-2006 at 06:00 AM |

Welcome Roland, All years are great. The cars are exceptioanlly reliable. If no one chimes in on your information requests right away, you'll certainly be able to find answers to all of your inquiries using the search function. Good to have you and Happy Prowling! ------------------ |

You will love the car more than you even think you will. This question has been asked a few times in the last couple of months, so do a search and all questions will be answered. As for the differences in years read the Prowler story, it explains all. The only advice I would have is if you know you want a trailer, you can probably get a better deal buying the car and trailer together, rather than a car first and a trailer later as I have found out. Of course they only made like 5 in my color scheme... Scott |

trailers are going for $ 4500 and UP, mostly UP. Tough to find as there were only about 1200 made. (I think) |

Hey there Roland. I just bought my first Prowler a couple months ago. I had the same exact question. I will attempt to NOT bad mouth any year or color, but here's why I decided on a '99 Purple. I didn't want the '97 because of the slightly lower horsepower rated engine, and because my personal belief that the first production year of any vehicle is sometimes problematic. I liked the Purple not just because it's a COOL color when the sun hits it!!, but also because that's what the prototype came out in and that's the ideal that was put out to the public as PROWLER. The 2000 and up didn't come in Purple. Also, I heard MANY of the chrome wheels flake and pit on the inside barrels. The chrome started mid year '99 I think. So, it was a purely logical decision for me. Find a 98 or 99 purple that had the silver wheels instead of chrome. Of course, it's all a matter of opinion........ If I were to consider another it would be '01 Orange. That is a hot color. Purple = COOL Orange = HOT. |

Just FYI. There were no 98 Prowlers so you need to get a 99 if you don't want a 97 Purple. Pick the color you like best, and make your decision based on that. |

Hi Roland, Welcome to the POA. I just bought my Prowler last month (as I stated in a previous post) it was my birthday present to me :-). I applaud your (pre-purchase investigation) efforts. Your'e doing what I should have done. I saw a Prowler in 1997 on a dealer's showroom and I knew that one day I'd own one. I saw a picture of one in a calendar in '04 that renewed my interest. In mid '05 when I heard that '02 was the last year they were made, I went into panic mode looking to buy one with no real knowledge about the car. I just knew it was the "coolest" factory car that I had ever seen, and I wanted one. Usually I'm very informed before making a $35,000 purchase. Even though most of my knowledge is coming "after-the-fact", (rough ride, 12 gallon gas tank, no spare tire, no trunk space, etc. I'm really happy with my Kat and I'm sure you will be too, because you're doing you homework. AND everyone on this site is very helpful. --PS. Mine is a '01 Orange. Good Luck and enjoy. Ray2 ------------------ This message has been edited by IMRAY2 on 01-07-2006 at 02:41 PM |
