Just put a deposit down on a 02 gold prowler. I am looking at picking in up on Saturday from Wisconsin. Will be hauling it to the southside of Chicago, about 130 miles.
I have a 16' dual axle trailer w/ side rails the inside measurement is 6'4". Is this to tight? With the low nose, how steep can the ramps be? What are the best points to strap it down at? Once I get it home I will have some ? on some of the maintance because it hasen't ben driven much in the last year & half.I also will need to get full coverage insurance on it, anything special I should ask agent?

Matt: Welcome ABOARD !!! 6' 4" sounds tight, 13degree incline unless there is air between the ramps, ie: rail reamps, then you should have no problems. Go to the search area and put in trailer tie down, many posts on the proper points to tie off you will need web straps to protect the aluminum. Get a guaranteed replacement value figure in your policy and keep it in garage. Good Luck, AND ENJOY!!! Jim

We have a Classic open trailer that is 8.5 wide (wheel to wheel), and is 18' long with a 4' beavertail. Not sure what the inside the wheel measurement, but guessing it's about what you stated. It's enough room. The doors open over the wheels.

As you see above Matt, that is the way to strap it in for the ride. DC says to strap the front at the motor mount x-frame but it is virtually impossible to get to and for me it's too far from my D-rings. I wrap a towel around the lower A-arm and wrap a strap around that. On the back wrap around the U-frame where the braces are mounted. You will not have any problems with this setup. Good luck with the new Kat.

Beware got a post in there on mewhile I was typing. But look at figure #8. The only way this would work is if your D-ring is right near it or you have rail hooks as shown. The above picture is a rollback truck and not a car hauler.

Thanks MD. Actually if you have the right length nylon straps and rachet straps these strap points will work. I use them to tie the Cat down on our open trailer. I also used the same points on our enclosed trailer before we sold it. I know Bob an CJ use these same points also to tie down the Prowler so look at their pictures to see what I mean about the proper length straps.
I would measure our trailer for you. I believe it is a 16 ft bed. However I loaned the trailer to a fellow POA member and he hasn't brought it back yet. It's OK though. I know where he lives

You also had a question about insurance. If the Prowler is not used as a daily car then you can insure it through a hobby or collector car insurance co. I use American Hobbyist. There # is 1-800-395-4835. There are several companies to chose from. I have an excellent annul rate and no mileage limit. Plus I have declared replacement value. Do a Google search for this type of insurance co. good luck and enjoy your Prowler. txgold

Just hauled the cat about 1900 miles last week. Used the correct tie downs. I use short axle straps (15" maybe) on the front though the holes below the motor mounts and longer ones on the rear that have the reinforcing pad on the strap.

the way I install the front ones is to put the axle strap on before loading the car in the trailer. I use redneck key holder ( don't know what else to call them but they all wear them hooked to their belts with a big key ring) to hold the straps in place and both rings close to one another. Once I get the car in place I can hook the ratchet strap to the axle stap without too much trouble, (leaving the RNKH attached)

BE CAREFUL NOT TO TOUCH EXHAUST IF ENGINE IS HOT! Bill Healy burnt his hand installing straps on the front before loading his.

I would not put mine on a trailer that is 76" wide......any error in loading or shifting while transporting will not be pretty....sounds like a trailer used to haul equipment on, not a car hauler.....I have hauled cars on my 16' trailer....my Bronco with running boards hit on both side and damaged them somewhat, (good thing it is my old rusted one).......deck height and side rails are too high to load the Prowler on.

Congradulations on the purchase of the Prowler and good luck getting it home. Driving it might be the safest way if the weather holds out a few more days.

I guess if your buying it to just keep and not drive,
I understand.
When I bought mine, I flew to NY,NY and drove it back to Alabama.
It had about 1200 miles on it when I left.
Loved ever mile of it!

Not sure why someone brought up this old post? I picked up the Kat 14 months ago. I rented a car trailer from U-Haul,I think it was about $50.00 for 24 hours. i purchased it from a private party. Hope to be driving it in a month or so when we get some clean streets here in Chicago!

CJ, was the front shield on your trailer when you bought it, or this something that you added? My trailer has no protector on the front and I really need to get something like this before heading to Tulsa. Thanks

The front shield on our Classic trailer was added later. You can purchase the two-piece shield with Lexan extension from Texas Rollback. It's two pieces and ships UPS. I've been extremely pleased with it.
