I ask this question because of what happened to me over the holidays. A few people were over and I offered to let them drive the prowler before they started drinking, but one guy chose to drink Bud and southern comfort rather than drive an exclusive and fine car. I found this sad and got to thinking about what I would have given up to drive a prowler before I had one. I figure I would have given my left arm to do so, but not my right, because it does all my favorite things.

I certainly would have driven the Prowler first, then had my Bud and/or Southern Comfort!

I agree. If I hadn't drank anything I guess it wouldn't have been a problem to wait a few more minutes. Maybe it's because I have a prowler that it isn't that big of a deal. I certainly wouldn't drink and expect someone to let me drive any car though....

I am not sure what if anything I would give up. I would certainly pass on a drink to drive one, but I don't drink that much anyway.

I would give up nothing ! My fist prowler experience was a rental prowler in las vegas, anīhour after the prowler testride I start gambling another 2 hourīs later I start drinking.... nothing helped, I had to wait for 2 more years to afford one !

This is a prime example of how different things affect different people. I believe since we own Prowlers it is hard to imagine that someone else could not want to take it for a ride. But truth is, many people are unaffected by a car, no matter what it is, and in that case they would just as soon have a beer!

I know it is true in my own view of some things. A few weeks ago a friend bought a new golf club. He just went on for 45 minutes about how great it was to swing and play with. I am NOT a golfer...doesn't interest me one minute to chase a ball around a course. I can't even recall which club it was he was so excited about! So I was BORED during the whole conversation, and certainly would have no ambition to want to hit a ball with his new club. I'd take a beer instead.

So I think that is true for many things in life, and that's why we are who we are. In answer to your question, even being a "car guy" I'm not sure I would really give up too much to drive any car, but certainly I would have given up a beer to drive a Prowler...if it interested me.

i would give so much but thats because i do not have one yet. occasionaly i see one parked and i ask the guy if its for sale, not because im going to buy it but because i want to start a conversation about the car no matter how busy i am.

I'm with Prowlrman on this. When I drive it some people give me a thumbs up. Some smile. Some don't even notice it. Kids in ricers hate them. I think they are cool, but I also know the whole world doesn't share my opinion. I would think many people would rather have a drink (or anything else) than drive one.

Heck, my wife cares little for it. I've had it two years and she has only sat in it once in our closed garage.

Topic: What would you have given up to drive a prowler for the first time?

In 1998, I gave up a check for $56,000.00 out the door.
That was a very good price at that time.

I'm not sure if I would have driven your car. We would have to be pretty close before I'd do it. Might have the drink even though I love the kat. Now, I gave up the $$$'s to drive one.

I'M WITH LARRY AND PROWLRMAN,I WON'T SAY I GAVE UP 35K FOR MY KAT, MAINLY BECAUSE I LOVE IT AT ANY PRICE. DO I LET ANYONE DRIVE IT, THAT WOULD BE NO NEVER, PEOPLE EITHER LOVE IT OR HATE IT. COULD BE CAUSE THEY WISH THEY HAD ONE, MOST PEOPLE I COME INTO CONTACT WITH THINK THE CAR COST 100K. AS FOR MY WIFE SHE COULD CARE LESS ABOUT IT. AS FOR MY 3 SONS THEY ALWAYS ASK ME TO TAKE IT OUT WITH THEIR FRIEND OR GIRLFRIEND THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN.IT'S MINE AND THAT'S IT. WHY WOULD ANYONE ASK THEIR FRIENDS IF THEY WANT TO DRIVE YOUR PROWLER?

Rick - since you asked - I have let at least 20 different people drive mine. My son drove it to his senior prom the week after I got it. Did he and his date think they wetre cool? - A picture of the car made it in his yearbook. My daughter has driven it at the drag strip on several occassions as well as checking out all teh cars in town during the NSRA Street Rod Nationals. Even my 70 something year old mother in law has taken it for a spin. You can't imagine how much they loved it.

I have let the ladies at work pick up their kids at school and make runs to McDonalds for coffee. How hard do you think it is for me to get them to do something extra for me at work when I get in a bind?

I even let Cnote drive it for an afternoon when I was working in Dallas.

If my dad had a cool car when I was in high school or college I know I would have wanted to drive it.

At the end of the day - it's a car. Yes, it's a special car and there is a risk when you let someone else drive it but the smiles on their faces and their appreciation is well worth the risk to me.

That's my opinion.

I agree Marty! Especially with family!!! My exception though is..."Friends don't ask friends to drive their Prowler".JMO

If one of my buddies had a Viper...or better example...a Ford GT-40...the thought of asking him to take it for a spin would never even enter my mind. I call this...respect, for the person and his/her ride that they have worked so hard in life for.
Besides...it's cool being a passenger. You're the one that gets to video tape the whole thing!

They can take my commuter car (1990 Corolla) any time they'd like!

I worked with the Prowler for a number of years before I actually got mine. Had gotten rides in them, but not the opportunity to drive one until I was preented with my Black Cat at DC Headquarters and drove it home.

My husband has only driven my cats a few times (not because I don't let him, but because he doesn't want to). My sons and daughter-in-law have driven the Black Cat, but the way my insurance is set up, Bob and I are the only ones listed as drivers. It would be a problem for me if I let someone else drive it and something happened.

I'm with Larry in that I usually offer a drive to anyone interested. Yes my friend broke the top and scraped the nose once, and yes I chopped off his hands (among others) and said never again. But time went by and I realized that it is just a car, and insured, and why not spread smiles? Maybe I have a different perspective being in my 20's still. Don't you guys remember car lust when you were a kid? Perhaps I'm giving the car too much credit because I'm a nerd. Boy has this topic gotton serious, I expected more replys like "I'd have singed off my nose hairs to drive one", etc...

Since the dealer I use is a friend, I didn't have to give up anything because he has let me drive anything on the lot and on occasion, I have taken cars home for the weekend. I have let numerous people drive the kat, the neighbor even took it to school for a project his son was working on. I have mellowed over the 7+ years I have owned the kat. The first two years, I did not let anyone drive it.
