Well, thanks to AlleyCat for some good advice, and thanks to TexasProwler for a beautiful Purple Prowler. Like a lot of you probably, I fell in love with the car when I saw it as a concept in the mid nineties. I started my journey by buying an orange flamed Honda Sabre metric cruiser. The wife and I had fun on it, but it was just a bit too dangerous for my liking. She didn't want me to, but I sold it. I then got a '69 Olds 442 convertible. I was lucky enough to have HORSEPOWER TV take it and do a performance build of it on their show. With the added value they put into it, I was able to sell it (and with some vacation hours sold back at work) finally get my dream car........the Purple Prowler. I still haven't driven it yet because it's Thanksgiving weekend and the tag office isn't open for me to register it. I have spend all day detailing it and just sitting in it. I can't wait. Thanks for the advice so far, and please be kind as I'm sure I'll have some lame questions in the future that you've probably heard asked a million times, like the best synthetic oils, etc. (Royal Purple??? Just to keep it all Purple)..... |

Yep NeverBland, that was us on TV. I was tired of all the problems of a 36 year old car. Yes, even after they got done, it was problematic to say the least. I only got rid of the 442 to get the Prowler. There was no other acceptable option. |

Congrats on the purple cat. But in Texas you have 30 day's to register a car. If you get pulled over just show them the bill of sale. Should not be a problem. Most likely (if you did get pulled over)the cop would just ask questions about your cat and drool all over it. Enjoy. |

Welcome to this crazy group fortsmith! You are in for some excellent times with your new 99 Purple Prowler! For starters, put on the ceramic front disc brake pads, front mud flaps, remove the front bumpers and add Tom Mills 'turn signal replacement kit'. If you have a few bucks to spare the performance final drive chain/gear kit from Dean is an excellent performance upgrade! Ask away if you wish...there is a wealth of information here for your new toy! |

Thanks everyone!! It's nice that the wife and I can share our love of the Prowler with those who would understand, instead of just looking at us as if we were freaks. So, ceramic front break pads huh? Also, the mud flaps.....I like the idea, but didn't someone write that their mud flaps got caught while backing up and their fender got damaged? |

Absolutely, positively get the ceramic pads. I just bought my third Prowler and it does not have them YET. I drove it Friday for the first time since I brought it home and I was shocked at how much dust was on the inside of the wheels. I will be doing a brake job soon. The flaps can get caught if your wheel is in a hole and you back up. The flap hits the back of the hole and gets pinched between the hole and the tire and that would cause the fender to "rotate". Just don't drive into a pot hole and decide to back up and you will be fine. For insurance against that possibility, you can cut slits in the flaps above all three bolts. If it gets caught in a pot hole, you would pull the flap off the fender. I recommend flaps to protect your paint. |
