Did the POA ever ask in a poll how or what owners felt about having a speed limiter built in to our cars? It's probably something the engineers [AND LAWYERS] required. What are your thoughts; does it bother you or you wouldn't go that fast anyway? |

I didn't buy the kat for speed, I liked the looks. It goes fast enough for me. |

I have a 99 Prowler and had it past 125 mph on the dyno no speed limiter, unless it's set higher |

Pumpkin: What is it set at or is it adjustable? Who makes it and how much is it? What years did the Prowler have them if they did? Sorry for so many questions, just interested that's all. |

Somewhere around 128 to 130,,,,you'll hit the limiter. Canucks claim their's will go up to the 150 range I wish it wasn't there,,,,but I understand DC's concern of warranting the engine and drive train,,,and not wanting to replace any more than they have to. Just the way it is today. |

There have also been reports of the front end getting light at the higher speeds. The story I heard is that the tires are only speed rated to 130 therefore the limiter. I don't know if that is true or not. This message has been edited by BeWare on 10-10-2005 at 01:31 PM |

Thanks Alley Cat, I knew that they had one but didn't know what speed they were set at, or if they were adjustable. Having the Speedo in the center of the dash lets my wife and it looks like Pumpkin's keep us in line with the posted speed. Warranting the drive line, heck I thought they would say that hi speed was causing the chrome to peel of of the rims and that's why there not covering them... |

The computer starts shutting down the fuel system at 130 MPH. I have experienced several times and last year on the Chelsea Proving Grounds 4.7 mile high banked track it was like throwing out an anchor - the Vipers just kept on gaining speed. 130 MPH is plenty fast enough in my opinion and I hope I am wise enough (hopefully)and mature enough (doubtful) to not push my car that fast on the street but save it for a track environment. ------------------ |

Marty - you would have enjoyed the 2003 Prowler event in Nevada,,, out to Area 51 base. 50 miles of flat, smooth, wide, wide open highway with no other cars traveling on it It was like a dream from heaven having that road to open up the cats full bore,,,non-stop. I did notice the gas gauge goes down much faster at those long and high sustained speeds 2nd best driving event that I've ever been on again, lol. |

Larry - as you and others have posted - the "adult, spirited driving" cruise at Prowlin' the Rockies will be hard to beat as the best Prowler driving experience! I wonder how many people will "claim" were there? MarcS, Bob & Colleen Hacker, you, us, my friend Wayne in the rented Mustang, Bob Goetz, Dean - who else was on that cruise? I was stuck to Marc's rear bumpers for so long I forgot to look and see who all was behind me. This message has been edited by Marty Usher on 10-09-2005 at 10:59 PM |

We have run ours up to 110 in short bursts. When we crossed the desert from Utah to Colorado was a good opportunity to run faster for long periods but there was nothing in sight for miles and miles and miles, so I was concerned about running out of gas and did not chance it. |

Marty - Let's see,,,,,,,Dr. Phil was also behind me, plus one or two more cars. I'm also drawing a blank on who? It was nine or ten cars on that full day run,,,,,had to be the best ever. I remember starting with nine cars,,,and Dean caught up with us mid-way. I'll never forget the look on that cops face as we flew by him at over 100 mph, lol. MEMORIES |

I had mine up to 125 and it started to lay down. I can't say I'm in favor of speed regulation in anything that I plunk down good bucks for. Kind of like the motorcycle helmet laws to protect us from ourselves...or others from man slaughter charges. The Cross Fire claims 150 top end. Guess they didn't do enough engineering to let us go over 130 if we wanted to..or are not sure of what they did sell us??? Bottom line is that it's my choice if I want to wrap myself around a tree--not theirs. Yeah I know, take others with me...yadda yadda yadda. I would have to see a Canadian Prowler go 150 with my own eyes to believe it..though it's been reported that they do. Seems like someone with ties to DC can verify if this is fact or fiction? Bet you they'll be a run on Canadian ECM sales if it's true. |

It's been my experience from working in dealerships, that fuel cut-off, or speed limiting is directly related to the speed rating of the o.e. tires. |

Here is a link back when Mike installed a CHIP that eliminated the Governor. 2nd page towards the bottom are the results of his first test drive at speed. Then go to page three for futher explanation http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum9/HTML/000136-2.html Quote from page 2: Ok, upper speed limit is unknown. I took the car up to 137MPH and it was still pulling, but it felt very unstable and I didn't feel comfortable to push it any further. So the answer is yes the speed governer is gone. I'm not sure that this is a good thing since the car doesn't handle very well at higher speeds. Quote from page 3: I had the stock run flats on the car. The nose felt like it was getting lighter with a less positive response on the steering wheel. Could it be the fenders that start creating lift? |
