Knowing how they randomly stacked them at Capp, It is very possible that it is the first one "released" to the public......But just knowing that the first one built was Mikes and his vin is 00001 there were a few built in between Mikes and this one in the registry... I dont see how it could be the second one "BUILT "? |

Well Joe Reigger (rolex1) has documentation he has the first Prowler SOLD to the public. Even though Joe has his for sale, his '97 has a different VIN # so I doubt he sold it to this guy who trying to sell his car as the first sold.

... personally, first built and last built of a given model carry some relative importance in the car collecting world ... when you start to get into this "first sold to the public" stuff ... just nonsense to ask more for the vehicle in my opinion. |

97's had 3.5 liter V6 that produced 215 HP. A far as what number it is, just because it doesn't matter to you, doesn't mean someone else wouldn't place a higher value on a particular # car. I feel pretty certain having the documented first Prolwer to be sold to the public will certainly be worth than my car in years to come! |

quote: Your right Marty! That VIN number has always confused me. My number doesn't indicate that my 97 is number 37 off the build line. I don't understand this statement that was made by the seller in this add. "The "Certificate of Origin" reads...VPRPPRP00002" Stupid question but where can this be found? Have a good day everyone! quote: agree...first built has importance, last built less importance.... first sold, first blue, first with a CD changer, etc etc....just goes on and on and on...no real extra value here... |

I can only speak for our assembly plant and I'm sure there's big differences within the OEMs, but here the cars are not built in sequence. A #2 does not necessarily need to be the successor of #1. In our plants all cars have production numbers, the cars are usually not tracked by VINs in the plant. The VINs of cars next to each other on the trim line can vary by several hundreds... If it was handled the same way in the Prowler plant, that might be an explanation...?! |
