Hello everyone,
My name is Randy and I am only 17 years old but am very blessed to be the proud new owner of a prowler, a red 1999, which I got about a month ago and have already put 1600 miles on the car and love watching people stare at me as I drive into town. This car is more then I could have dreamed for and I am planning to keep the car stock other then a few small changes. It's always great taking the car over to my friends house to pick them up and having the whole family come out and want to see the car and then everyone wants a ride. The way things are now I am going to have to start a list of people that want me to give them a ride in it...hahah. Anyways I have been doing a lot of searching and I have found out that since my prowler will need new tires in the next 6 months I want to go with wider tires in the rear. What is the widest tire that will fit on the stock rims and who makes them. I don't care if they are run flat or not. Thanks for having such a wonderful website and being so caring and helpful to each other. Thanks ahead of time for hopefully finding an answer to my question.

Randy - congratulations on getting prowler at such a young age! The wheel wells will hold tires up to 12" wide but that is probably too wide for the stock rims. If you are going to "bigger" tires, be sure they not much taller - stock tiores are 29.3" tall and mine are 30.66 and rubbed the frame rail in front of the rear wheels.

Not many choices in 20" tires. Non run flats are cheaper. Check www.tirerack.com plus some tire manufacturtes that don't sell through tirerack. My tires are Cooper 305/45/20 Zeon tires with 10.26 inches wide tread.

17 and driving a Prowler? Wow where do you go from there?

Congrats!!

Maybe instead of wider tires I think you can get spacers and push the tires out towards the wheel wells. Watch what you put on though...the specs are tight with the tires.

The spacers are a god suggestion. They push the wheels out and help fill the wheel wells. There aren't many options for 20" tires that are any wider than stock 10 inch tread width. The car has a hard time spinning the stock tires anyway.

i just got back from an unsuccessfull attempt at the tire dealer to put on 295/45/20 on my Kat.....fit the wheel well perfect....but tire rubbed on the frame... gotta go with the 40's.......he noticed my grossly flaking rims and commented that all the American racing wheels he has sold have had problems... he won't sell the chrome ones anymore....

Foottothefloor87,

Welcome and congratulations!!!

WOW...17 with a Prowler!!! I had a 69 Ford van at 17. Definitely not the same as a Prowler. You must be like a celebrity in your small town.

You may want to try and e-mail Dave (2K1Orange). He had retrofitted a pair of larger tires on his cat. I'm sure he can give you the pros and cons.

Yeah thanks everyone for the help with the tire question I had and I guess I will have to look in to wheel spacers. Oh and I am very interested in getting in some events with the prowlers in my area so I will try to get in touch with some of the local prowler owner. I can never get over what people say and do when they see the car. The other day I was in town just driving around and a boy about 12 years old walking on the side walk started yelling and streaming and pointing. I just smiled and kept on driving. I guess it's true what you all say about people and how they react to the car.

i offer spacers for sale, made of billet aluminum, they give the car a wider stance & make the tire look wider, also give the car a little more stable ride with the wider stance, let me know if you are interested.
