Update on my 2001 Silver with 16,066 smillin miles (I don't count the last 50 feet). Still haven't caught the bad guy YET. My insurance company is giving me a fair price for my car. I can't take any of the mods off of it. Not what I wanted, but I believe it is fair. I asked for the salvage value, and they will tell me Monday. Then I need to decide if I want to keep it and part it out. It is NOT a fixer-upper. The frame is too badly damaged to repair, and the transmission is trashed along with the drivers door, rear fender, trunk lid, back pan and the rear suspension parts.
See this post about half way down for pictures.
http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/013233.html

My question is what is it worth? If I keep it, I have a dry warehouse to store it in and have plenty of room to disassemble it while I practice my "Prowler Tech" skills. My guess is about $10,000.00, but at that price, I will not keep it. Quick sell items are the TGF grill, engine panels, door inserts, head rest covers, bumper delete covers and Borla exhaust. Maybe $2000.00 for those. IMPORTANT NOTE: Both window regulators were working, but the drivers door glass is in a million pieces. AND about 1/2 tank of gas.

Please give me your thoughts as to the value. I can't access my work e-mail at home, so please either post, PM, or e-mail grubbs_brad@yahoo.com , or I'll get e-mails Monday morning.

Thanks again for all of your help and support. Brad.

Brad, since they won't let you take your mods off, and since I assume your policy is for a "Like" replacement - wouldn't they either need write you a check for a prowler that has those options OR let you keep them? Yeah, you should get a list of what it has and see who's wanting what pieces, maybe you could part it all out ?? I'll step up on the headrest covers if they're the chrome ones It's ashame what happened to your Kat, it was very beautiful.

...this Kat has NO parts to salvage.....the junkyard wanted $12,500 for it....they are down to $7,500 after having it for nearly 2 years......I have looked it over inside out, I mean nothing except maybe the carpeting, and some nuts and bolts etc etc...

...your Kat might be worth a fortune to you in a few years for parts for your next Kat....just park it and let it set....or, the smaller the parts you can break the car into, the more $$$ you will recoup from your labor....I think I would either just park it, or let it go....

Bradley- Keep in mind that if you buy your Salvage back from the Insurance Co., you will be resposible for the tow charge paid by the Body Shop as well as any Storage the Body Shop may want to charge...could add up in a hurry. Also, the last time I checked, Insurance Companies expected to recoup a minimum of 20% of the settlement back from sale of the Salvage. They may expect more in this case since the Prowler is an "Exotic". If it was me, I'd opt to keep the salvage and part it out... If you need a "Partner", give me an email. Buddy

Bradley,

As an Insurance agent I would like to let you know you may not have to settle at what I consider to be too low of an amount for your Prowler. Go to Kelly Blue Book at kbb.com and look at the values they present. Also go to edmunds.com and check out the pricing they have for used prowlers with low mileage. I figure you have a good argument to have them settle at an amount between 26-30K as a trade in value or between 31-39K Retail. 10,000 is ridiculously lowball. Hold out and do not settle too soon. Adjusters attempt to settle low on first offer hoping you will take it. I also see no reason why you should not be allowed to take any personal property off the vehicle that did not originally come with the vehicle. Call it personal property.
My wife also has a Silver Prowler with hard top and I can tell you that I would fight that offer.

Al

I think the $10K figure is what he is anticipating buying the car for from the insurance company.... as salvage

Guess I should have reread the post a little more carefully. But still he should have the right to fight to remove personal property

if he had the stock parts, he might be able to swap them for the custom....but the insurance company would want a part of somekind....replacement/custom parts are not considered personal items...

Bradley - if the tranny is now junk,,,,,try 'em at $7,500.

I'm thinking $9K would still be an acceptable deal. JMO

Been out all evening with a beautiful woman, and just got home. Yes, of course it is Nancy. Almost 33 years together and she still comes home with me. I should be in bed. Stupid computer will mess you up every time.

You have such good input. Al, the insurance company offered in the mid range of retail, plus tax. This was after allowing an extra $3000 for my TGF mods less the hardtop. I have had the hardtop safely tucked away in our guest room closet for the last 6 weeks and it is still safe.
Randy, the head rest covers and door panels are silver.

Buddy, I already paid the $167.00 to have the car towed to Neal at Preston Chrysler the night of the accident because the police wanted to tow it to their pound (for FREE). I'll get the tow $ back and they are storing it at no charge. I refused to go to the hospital in the ambulance because I felt I should ride with the Kat to make sure there was no more damage during its ride to Preston Chrysler. By the way, not going to the hospital in the ambulance was DUMB!! Instead, I waited in the emergency room for 3 hours the next day after seeing my doctor long enough for him to tell me to go to the hospital. I LIVED AND I learned.

Hopefully by Monday, I'll be better prepared to negotiate a final settlement and keep the car. So far, my insurance company, Farmers has been reasonable, and I don't expect them to change now. They insure my other cars, home and business, so maybe that makes a difference.

Thanks again for your imput, and keep the good advice coming. Thanks, and God Bless, Brad

Brad, glad you're OK. A lesson learned about the ambulance ride. And finally ... I HOPE THEY FIND THE BASTARD that did this.

If possible, I'd try to keep the car for salvage. The parts will be worth keeping for the future.

If they try to play hardball, throw it back at them with pain and suffering added in (reminding them you are still in a lot of pain)....they might work with better then. If they play fair, all is well. You pay insurance so you are covered in situations like this and if it costs 40K to replace your ride, then that is what they should pay. Again, its good to see you are still healthy, though in a little discomfort after the accident. Good luck with the insurance company, hope it all works out to your benefit. I too would be interested in parts, if you don't decide to keep them for your own use later. Craig

If you pay tax on a new car when you buy it make sure they give you the tax amount on your claim! ( if you lived here $30,000 car you pay $1950.00 in tax ) also you should get paid for the un used time on your plates.

I just got the salvage value from Farmers. First, I must say that Farmers has been VERY responsive and VERY fair to me on this whole ordeal.
They received a bid from Dallas Auto Salvage of $11,966.75, and will allow me to have first refusal before they sell it to them. My cost would be that price plus sales tax of $750.00, plus moving the car from the body shop to my brothers warehouse (about 40 miles). $13,000.00 is more than I can afford to have tied up for an extended time (I still owe on the broken Kat). If anyone is interested within the POA, please let me know right away, as I only have until tomorrow, Tuesday, morning to give an answer. If any of you want it, I can save it for you until after the Dells Event. But, please, it must be a firm commitment. I will post this in the Classified also. Thanks for everybodys input. Brad
