Larry Lord sorry about this post but it's true.

Last year I got stopped and got a verbal warning and let go with no ticket for Having an obstructed rear license Plate & marker lights while using the KAT RACK with a cooler on it. That was no big deal.

BUT!!!!!!!! This memorial day weekend while on my way to a party i had to stop for a click it or ticket (seatbelt checkpoint) as the state trooper asked me for my License & reg he mentioned that i should have a front Lic plate but no problem, But when he went to the back to check lic plate he informed me that my rear lic plate was not visible at all nor were my marker lights. i would be getting ticket for that and that if i wanted to proceed i would have to take the cooler off and have a visible unobstructed lic Plate.

Well it gets better i can't move the car with the cooler full of sea food (lobster, steamers, scallops,) on your KAT RACK and my girl friend in the passenger seat fit to be tied!!!, Cooler to big to fit in her lap & (WE WERE RUNNING REAL LATE) so i had to call some one to come out and meet me to take the cooler off my hands so i could leave with my summons for no front plate and obstructed rear lic Plate. when i asked him about his saying the front plate being no problem he said i pushed it to far with the rear Plate being obstructed.
And that even if he had just been driving behind me he would have pulled me over for it.

After all this I WOULD STRONGLY NOT RECOMMEND the KAT RACK to anyone Unless you Plan to use the KAT RACK to pick up a large Pizza, other than that IMO its absolutely worthless and can give the Cops a reason to stop you

Has anyone else had this problem???????

Humm, never would have thought of that problem. Perhaps a license plate bracket could be added to the kat rack. Larry will engineer a solution.

I know with the weekender you can see the Lic plate.
I also think with the Mopar rack you can see the plate.
If you want to use the Kat Rack, just take the plate off and Double stick tape the plate to the cooler when you want to transport something.
As for the front plate just keep it under the seat and put it in the front window if you get stopped.
If you need a front plastic plate bracket that came with the car I have an extra you can have N/C.

I have the original mopar rack and you can see the plate with it on the car. The added reinforcement on the rack obstructs it some, but not the whole plate.

Toys,

Sorry to hear about your problem.
The hidden plate issue was discussed quite a bit when I asked for design suggestions. Most people said that they would just take their chances and then deal with it as required.
I sure wish you had called me last year when you got your first warning. I would have made you a plate bracket at that time.
I'll make one for you at no charge if it will help to solve your problem. The problem with a plate bracket is you will have to take your rear plate off the car to use it. Another option was to use the unused front plate on the KatRack.
One person just drilled 2 holes in the rear edge of his KatRack and bolted the plate to it using the lower 2 holes in the plate. I have no idea what marker lights are covered though. Can you explain that to me? Was your ice chest that long?
If you are still unhappy and decide not to use your KatRack, I have a chrome PT rack that has only been used once that I'll sell you for $100.00 plus shipping to make up for your troubles, lost time and grouchy girlfriend.
Just let me know what I can do to make you happy and I'll do my best to make it happen.

Maybe you can send me that ice chest full of lobster and scallops,,,I'll unload it and pack the PT cruiser rack inside and send it back to you.

Geez,
Doesn't anyone pulling a trailer in any vehicle have a restricted view of the rear tag? Or bike carriers? That's ridiculous. Sounds like the cop was just on a power trip.

In Maryland that would be an inspection ticket. No cost just a nuisance trip to the inspection station to get the corrections signed off.

Toys,

If you do decide to install your front plate, there is a really nice mounting bracket that will accept the plastic license plate frame that Mike is so kindly offering to you. Please check out the old thread below for further:

As far as keeping the front plate with you and pulling it out when you get stopped...well...it didn't work for me up here in NH. This is the ONLY drawback to living in a state where the crime is very low. It gives them a lot of free time to pull you over for all the small $hit.

I'm sorry to hear of your inconvenience but once again Larry is standing behind his great products in addition to so many friends being here to help.

We got stopped in MO for not wearing a helmet on the m/c. We had come all the way across MO and had about 15 miles to the border when we got stopped. We had a bag hanging from the rear of the bike containing the helmets. The bag TOTALLY blocked the plate and the state trooper did not say anything about it.

He told us to put our helmets on and that was that. He did go around the block and made sure we had them on, though. We almost made it thru the entire state, too. Route 36.
