Greetings Everyone!
Today is my one year anniversary with my 1999 Plymouth Prowler! I spent the entire day pampering her with a full interior clean up and detail; exterior wash, wax and detail. One thing I just discovered are two mysterious buttons on the back side of the steering wheel, opposite the cruise control buttons on the front of the steering wheel. I hesitate to push them until I know what they are used for. Anyone know what the mysterious, unmarked buttons control??
Over the last year of ownership I have never once regretted purchasing my Prowler....Even after learning about the many 'idiosyncrasies' which can plague any vehicle.
I have completed my 2005 modifications which include:
Ceramic brake shoes-front, mud flaps-front, bumper removal-front, turn signal replacement kit. Thank you Tom Mills/Jefferson Auto!! Also, I have installed Deans High Performance Final Drive Gear/Chain set....Love those gears Dean...rubber in second gear on WOT 1st to 2nd upshift!
The Prowler sat for seven months during the long Michigan winter. The first time I fired her up this spring I had the infamous 'lifter tick'. Knowing not to worry, I purchased the Puralator filter with the anti-drain back valve, and had the oil changed with Mobil One. The car sat for another nine days due to inclement weather. First fire up after that NO TICK! Issue closed for three bucks and change! (not including oil)
Tips not costing anything include: Clothes pin to remove center caps. Beef up inside tabs of center caps with hot glue, lube spring wire of center cap. Washer fluid hose on evil bracket on convertible top to prevent wear thru. Towel in trunk, use supplied tie downs to prevent premature wear to top. All great tips and advice!
I have really grown to enjoy this site! Most people are happy to share their good or bad experiences, but most important, how 'issues' were solved/resolved. My check is in the mail as a POA supporter!

Quincy,
I believe what you are talking about is the two plugs to cover the holes where the screws that hold the front steering wheel cover are located. There was a recall back in the mid 90's about this on my Ram p/up(yep, same part). It seems if you had alot of keys on your keyring they would get caught up in the holes and prevent you from turning the wheel.

MD Prowler,
Take a good look. There are buttons that you can depress, one on each side of the spokes, back side. Unknown what they are for. I don't recall the manual describing their function.

Don't touch those buttons !
Quincy, whatever you do - don't press them !!

They're the passenger seat eject botton on your right hand side and the surface to surface missle launch on the left hand side

P.S. Reckon' I watched too much 007 ?
Congratulations on your 1st anniversary !

Quincy, they are probably the radio controls that hali was talking about. Right side volume up/down and center button mute. Left side channel or track change.

Quincy, your post should be a "must read" for all new owners. You summed it up pretty well.
Congrats on the first year. It never gets old.

Okay, I'm not at home to check, but on the back of the steering wheel on the right is a volume control (top/higher volume) (bottom/lower volume). In the middle of those two is a button that is a mute button. On the left side of the steering wheel are the buttons that change the tracks for the cd (forward and reverse). Also does something with the radio and now, for the life of me, I can't remember what the middle button does.... Just try it, though.....and I promise you won't get ejected from the car!

once. But I think the batteries were dead cause nothing happened. Maybe if I had jacked in 120v it might have worked better.

My wife actually did it to me first...she used the 220V feed to the dryer! Man...knocked me right on my a$$. Good thing she didn't have access to my workplace. She could have hit me with 480 or even 4160.

Sorry...Quincy...Happy Anniversary!

It's in the owners manual. Look under radio controls.

CJ,
I think the middle button recalls your preset radio stations, but I could be wrong.
Im married 30 years so I found out I can be wrong MANY MANY times.
