yes it is. The top will vibrate and after prolonged use with the top down you will start to see wear marks in the top and it can even cause small holes in the top.

Some folks place a washcloth between the top and the housing around the trunk lid latch area. The carpeted area that sticks out can rub on the top even if it is tied down if it is not tied down TIGHTLY.

You can get them from TGF or from Prowler Products by Gary.

They look like roll bars from the back.
If you keep them at the same height.

When the top is down and stowed on my cats, I actually take a bath towel and lay it across the top and tuck it in so there's no risk of any damage to the top or the deck lid.

If you are wondering about the looped cable behind the drivers seat...it is for the drag chute! At least people think it is cool when you tell them that.

I do the same as CJ with a towel.
I bought a graphite gray colored one that matches the carpet.

I actually lay strips of a small towel under the strap each time I tie down.....as it looks like the tie down strap rubs a bit on the canvas...

Maybe I'm nuts, but I feel better doing that. the canvas can wear easily against the wrong thing.
