...how difficult is this procedure...anyone done it ???... ...the inside mirror has the temp etc on the 2000 models and newer.... ...all other changes between the years are relatively easy to do...at least anything that matters.....harsh ride is no problem.... Tangled, I thought about changing the rear view mirror on my '99 to a 2000 mirror a couple of years ago. The feedback I got was that it would be Extremely difficult to accomplish. A newer (2000 forward) body control module is required to provide the fuel/temp/compass functions. |

Bell - someone asked that question while I toured the Conner Ave. plant in 2001. The answer was "nearly impossible" |

...looks like I will have to mount a "Coke" thermometer on the dash and carry a compass in my pocket.....kinda looking at a 99 and that is the major complaint I had between the years....all other changes are fixable or I don't care about it anyway.... |

Larry, I had asked that question at CAAP some time ago and I was told that it would be very difficult. Control Module, and wiring would both need work. This message has been edited by Dave Mills on 01-02-2005 at 07:45 AM |

Yes,,,,you will need the Coke thermometer since Cookie is always sweating for your attention. She is of little use when determining the outside temp. Is there room for a compass in your pocket? Ed said you always play 'pocket pool' |

Larry, I have been wanting to do that also. What about the mirror from Mito Corp. http://www.mitocorp.com/homelink_mirrors.htm everything is there including "homelink" for the garage door. Bob |

Hack - I'd give that unit a try. Doesn't do all the features that the newer cat mirror does,,,,but you can get by without the MPG, instant MPG, and distance to empty features. Johnson Controls is a quality company. |

It's really not possible to change out the mirrors. There are different issues such as remote temperature sensors (location) and wiring. |

Let me know if you try to do it. I did add the newer shocks on my 99 front and rear. |

Larry, You wear shorts in 2 feet of snow. What possible use could you have for a thermometer? |

Jan - did you talk with someone at Mito? Why couldn't it be placed on the windshield [up high] and run the wires through the windshield header? |

Guys, sorry for reviving a 10 year old thread, but I wonder if anybody ever managed to do this, I especially like the DTE feature and auto dimming on the 2000+ mirror, is this not possible on a 99 ? |
