I seem to notice a decent number of members perceive the Prowler as more fragile than it really is. The car may look like a wild toy, but there's still a practical everyday car in there....

IMO... here are the top five misconceptions answered.

1) Yes, you can drive the car in the rain, it won't melt.

2) Yes the car will handle in the snow and not spin like a merry-go-round.

3) No, the car won't turn brittle in the winter and crack apart like an eggshell.

4) Yes, you can put a drink inside the car..they even put a cupholder there for ya!

5) Yes, you CAN jack the car up on one side and without twisting the whole car into a mobius strip. That welded frame is sturdier than most other cars combined!

Whew..I feel better now....LOL.

:D

Did I read that right - I agreed with A/C!

Sorry BT - my Kat does melt when it gets wet (or do I float - I can't remember which)

I'm not addressing questions asked by the unwashed public.

I'm referring to misconceptions about the car that some POA members might have....and ones that I have read here...mostly concerning ideas that the car is incredibly fragile....Like the front wheels can fall off at any time....OOPS THAT ONE IS TRUE......My bad...

1) Yes, you can drive the car in the rain, it won't melt.
While this is true, after 35 years of collecting, I just prefer not to get wet any more than necessary
2) Yes the car will handle in the snow and not spin like a merry-go-round. I have other cars to use in the winter, I just don't use this one

3) No, the car won't turn brittle in the winter and crack apart like an eggshell. See No. 2

4) Yes, you can put a drink inside the car..they even put a cupholder there for ya! I can attest to this, I even spilled one!

5) Yes, you CAN jack the car up on one side and without twisting the whole car into a mobius strip. That welded frame is sturdier than most other cars combined! That is what lifts are for, I don't jack up any of my cars

I agree that there appears to be misconceptions as BT mentions. I can attest that with the exception of me damaging the engine with nitrous - which was entirely my error - my Prowler has held up VERY well under daily driving for 90,000 plus miles. One other myth besides the on e that you have to baby it is that it has no storage space. Yes, we use a trailer to take weeklong trips but have packed for two for four days several times and haul groceries and make work deliveries all the time.

For those like Dave Mills and others that CHOOSE to not drive in rain or winter weather - I have no problem with their decision - it's their car to do as they please. But, for those that think it has to be babied because it is fragile - in my experience, it is not!

Marty gets the prize for "getting" my intent 100%. No slams on those who CHOOSE not to muck their car up in the nasty winter or bad weather. A Prowler that has never seen rain will look a helluva lot cleaner under close inspection at car shows...

To many, the Prowler is justifiably a sunny day toy and have plenty of other cars to drive in crappy weather.

This thread was to point out that basically the car is not as fragile as some believe. I personally envy those with a beater to take out on nasty days! Only room for 2 cars in my garage and the hell if I'm going to clutter up my driveway with some hoopty I only need a few days a year.

This is a fun site! I'm a Prowler newbie but have been bitten by other hobbies in the past, the old sports car bug, the Harley bug and the like. I now own a black 2000 Kat that was well cared for but not by a person that knew how to care for a car well, if that makes sense. The result, a nice, all weather, daily driver which is what I really wanted in the first place. I now live in the Northwest where it frequently rains. The real deal for me now... (since being bitten by the Prowler Bug) I want another one. I find myself wanting a new, fresh,
"Really Clean" one to trick out/doll up and drive on the warm sunny days only. Don't you hate being bitten like that. I agree with most who have written in... they are much tuffer than their cool exterior reflects.

I don't look at the car as being fragile - It's me that is. It wears me out to clean it back they way I wanted when it gets wet.

So no more rain for me!!!!!!!!!!!!

You mean it won't fall apart either once I hit (if ever) 12,000 miles ?!? <phew!>

Funny thing too about Corvettes, so many people baby them as well and yet at the plant, they are handled like the "sports cars" they are from the get go as they are driven off the line and by many car jockies around the outside staging area as well. In fact, to say "my vette has never seen snow or rain", what the heck .. they know something about how their car was stored "inside" from production to delivery to them?? NOT ... Have been in Bowling Green and saw a field of Vettes all covered with frozen rain and snow ...

Cars, after all ARE meant to be driven and some MAY be worth something someday, but probably NOT the ones we think! Some just CHOOSE to not drive them as much for various reasons ... now try telling all this to Harold Sullivan and HIS garage full of wonderful cars that WERE made to be DRIVEN too! Maybe he will let us all take turns next year!!

Larry King, I too live in Pacific north wet and my is a daily driver. I also agree.... you need two katts, the more the merrier. As far as soft top seal leakage, I avoided that by purchasing two hard tops for winter use. Though I have driven them in the snow, I prefer to drive my 4x4 on the few occasions that it does snow in western Washington. To those that park their Prowlers in a garage, I envy you, I can't get anything in my garage, too much crap....oops to many treasures. Drive them and let the world around you enjoy a beauty of imagination and engineering.

6) Yes, they clean up great if you get it dirty (rain).
7) Yes, they handle the corners great.....i.e. Tail of the Dragon and the mountain roads in Colorado and the Smokies.
8) Yes, you can drag race it!

Guess I will have to agree and disagree here.

yes the cars are made to be driven and not they do not shrink when wet.

My car got wet on the way home from the dealer the day I bought it, YES it can be just as clean when shown. I showed my for 2 years on the ISCA show circuit and won 1st place in exotic sports on `99~00

You spend more time cleaning, and become a little creative, but it has been brown top to bottom from a trip to Detroit in `98 for the dream cruise. I bought a brush made to clean an aquarium to clean the TOP of the fuel tank, polished the frame and most the other aluminum I could get to and continued to drive it and yes GET CAUGHT OUT IN THE RAIN, many times going to a show before the car hauler.

Yes mine is trailer some, No it has not been driven in snow, (do you concider from convention center to parking lot across the street in flurries driven in snow? if so it has been driven in snow)

Since I have 2 - 4 wheel drive trucks there is no reason to drive it in the snow. Sue has her car which we use as the family vehicle and 2 other cars we do not drive in the snow. IF we are going to a car show and it is raining we have a rain day car to drive `74 Cadillac Coupe deVille with 29,000 miles that is almost all original.

Since the car is 6 years old and I do not care weather I get it out or not and I'm tired of cleaning it it is better for it to sit in the garage and stay clean than to drive it in the rain.

Do I get it, I think so, do I care anymore, I think not

I think it is cool when people can drive their cool cars daily. I would not drive mine to work and leave in the parking lot, but when I worked at my last job I bought a `67 Dodge Coronet convertible that had original paint, interior and factory air to drive as my daily driver and loved it.

Sometimes the situation does not allow for people to use the car as they wish.

My cousin in Miss. has a `57 Coupe deVille he drives as a daily driver. He is retired and has many cool cars. I would love to be able to drive mine daily

It is not that everyone misunderstands, some just cannot justify the risk of driving them if they have other vehicles to use

I admit, I hate getting caught in the rain cause I know there's a lot of cleaning ahead, and our pretty garage gets all messy too. Though I can clean ole' BT up within a half hour and have it look good.

But getting caught in the rain with the Prowler still beats walking...
