I'm sure the story is familiar - I'm a car nut who's been following the Prowler since its inception, and am now considering getting my very own! I really don't have garage space, but I'll probably sell my boat soon to make room (and it doesn't mind being outdoors anyhow!) So I'm thinking about getting a nice example, 99 or newer (to get the good engine) and the wife thinks she'd like the trailer too so it's useful for road trips or the like. Some questions from a complete Prowler newbie: 1) The Supercharger from Paxton - have any of you tried installing it yourselves? Is that feasible? Or, how much is normal for installation? Finally, Any 0-60 times with the normal (not upgraded boost) kit? 2) Are trailers still available? How much? How much is the hitch kit for the Prowler? 3) What's with every single car for sale being $5-15k more than book value? 4) Is the supercharger investment returned upon resale? I'm in SE Denver, and may drive down to Colorado Springs to check out a Yellow example sometime soon, although I really just want a Purple one. |

There's a purple one in your city. It has just a couple mods to it but you might like it anyway. His name is Marc S. (Don't wanna spell his last name wrong.) Right now he is at the dream cruise out of state. I assume he'll be home next week sometime. He can answer most any question you have. In the meantime, I'll answer a few myself. Trailers are no longer being made. You'll have to settle for a used one as all new ones have been sold. They sold new for $5075 and can be bought for about $3500 to $4500. You may well have to settle for one of a different color and repaint it. You can occasionally find them on ebay. The hitch lists for about $224 but we have some dealers on here that will provide you a gracious discount. The wiring harness is about $45 list, but again, discounts are available. I got my hitch for $175 and harness for $38. As for your car pricing question, that's been a hotly debated topic. You must remember, these cars were a limited production vehicle. Supply and demand controls much of the pricing, as does a seller's need to sell, or the buyer's need to buy. Patience is a virtue. Welcome to the POA. Always feel free to post an opinion, ask a question, or provide information. And remember, there is much valuable information in the search feature at the top right corner of these pages, as well as in many of the links on the main page, such as information on the history of the Prowler. |

I wouldn't expect any return on the s/c "investment" upon resale. That being said, from everything I have read and heard, a s/c, good headers, and gears will put you in a position to outrun a lot of vehicles (A LOT). The ones you don't out run will probably give you some respect. The alternative is a bottle and gears. Both will give you the performance that the look deserves. I'm sure they both have drawbacks. I am going to do the gears in another month or so then do the chrome or polished front end in the winter. I am still debating a 50-75 hp no2 setup eventually since it costs much less, at least until the engine goes bye-bye. That's what they build stokers for anyways. |
