I finally got through to Dave and Nancy Ridge a few minutes ago, they are safe but it sounds like the house has considerable damage. I don't know how much damage my place has yet. I am sure from watching the news there will be plenty. |

Either Jay or I have talked with some FL cat owners and so far everyone is okay. Frank & Dink Tipton have a home in Key Largo and they secured it on Thursday and evacuated. They are fine. Ken & Carol Carter from Naples have been gone since March from FL and just returned yesterday to FL only to be welcomed by this. They too are fine with a yard of debris to keep them busy for a while. DQMan Mike & Karen's home is on Marco Island & they were visiting the big mouse in Orlando and were OK tonite there. Of course, all the Orlando parks closed today....sorry Mike! He says their home is okay though. You've already gotten the report on Dave & Nancy Ridge from Wildcat in another post so we're very happy they are okay too but from all news reports the power will be out for a while as that area was one of the hardest hit. All other FL cat friends....please post too so we'll all know you are okay. Thankfully, it passed over our daughter who lives in Orlando tonite without any incidents!! Take care everyone. Nancy |

Hope all of you Fl Kat Pack folks are OK and all those along the Atlantic coast are spared. I don't know of any owners at SC/NC coastal areas, but I know we have some in Va Beach, the DC area and the Maryland eastern shore. Good luck to those. My son was in Wilmington, NC on a back to school trip and they had voluntary evacuation last night and mandatory by 6:00 am today. ------------------ |

We survived Charley in Port Orange!! The area is hard hit by tree and vegetation debris and some damage to houses in my immediate subdivision. The center just about came overhead last night about 11 PM and the whole place was a shakin' for some time. The Kat was in the neighbors garage while they are back home in NH. Luckily, one of his maple trees let go a huge limb and it landed on top of the garage but thankfully did no damage except to land on it. I lost the front-side shingles on the roof as for a buch of trees limbs and one tree. Power was off for about 16 hours and got it back about an hour ago. Unfortuantley for us, as the storm lost it's real wind punch in the concentrated center prior to landfall on the west coast, we paid for it as we felt the rath of it for more than 1.5 hours as the wind field spread out. The funny thing (if there is any levity in the destruction and death) was that a 2 couples on eaither side of me came here from Tampa to stay with friends and get away from the hurricane and found themselves in the worst of it! I will post some pics later if I can get to it. |

Hi everyone. Thanks for all the concern for the Florida Group. We had Mandatory evacs from Marco Island so we packed up the family the dogs and went to Disney. Of course the storm followed us straight to Orlando! Naples wasnt too bad hit, although as of Saturday Nite there was still no power to most of downtown. Just a lot of trees down. Ft Myers is another story. It is Bad. The National Guard is out in Force, and there is a curfew from 7 PM to 7 AM. Planes were thrown like leaves at the airport, and there is no power to 700,000 people. Many roads are impassable, and all are being told to stay home. As of Sat there were very few Gas stations and stores open. We have a store in a mall in Ft Myers and were not allowed near the mall, by the National Guard. Many if not all windows were blown out. Trees are thrown everywhere, and it is scarry to see the damage Nature can do. We have heard the Sanibel Island was hit very Hard as the highest point on the island is 11 feet above sealevel, and the serge was 13 feet. All the BIG signs on I 95 were taken out, just Blown away for some 20 miles, so if anyone is going to be traveling on I 95 ther are NO markers of any kind. Again thanks for all the concern, we pray for those not as fortunate as us! Mike and Karen |

Chuluota, Seminole County, FL. We were directly in Charley's path. Eye passed right Oviedo, Chuluota and Geneva on the way to Daytona Beach. Constant wind speed 90mph with gusts up to 109. The gusts sounded like a freight train coming and beleive me you heard it before you ever saw it. Almost indescribable. Lost more trees than I care to count. Some down, some topped by wind, and some at such an angle that they will have to be taken down. One large oak fell on our 3 month new Dodge RAM 1500. Extremely minor damage to the truck (I coulnd't believe it when we cut it out from under the tree) (thank God) and probably won't even submit a claim. House came through with only the loss of a few shingles and some weatherstriping blown out of a skylight. Cleanup will continue tomorrow. For a good 10 miles in any direction around us it looks like a war zone. Massive oaks uprooted and tall pines splintered like toothpicks. Bowling alley in Oviedo (5 miles away) had an entire wall blown out. Some buildings in Oviedo no longer recognizable. As of 5pm today some streets still not traversable due to downed trees and power lines. Massive amounts of debris everywhere. Power and phone lines down or blown away everywhere. Power companies say they are rebuilding not repairing many places due to extensive damage. Needless to say, no power or phones and probably not going to be for a few more days. We are at our sons house in Apopka where they have power. We worked from 6:30am to 2pm yesterday and 8am to 4pm today and hardly made a dent in the mess. Could have been worse. We could have been in Punta Gorda. Rick & Phyllis |
