Ultimately, why was Prowler production stopped/killed?

It was from the start only a 5 year production car.

It was made to test many new forms of metal and to draw people to the show room floor much like the viper. It did what it set out to do and the rest is history, just like the car!

OK, that's kewl...probably better this way--makes OURS even more rare. New query: How does one go from 'enthusiast' to 'junkie' over in the left-hand margin? Based on # of posts? # of Prowlers? Arbitrarily changed by admin? What?

I heard the 3.5 engine used on the prowler was no longer being manufactured so therefore they could not continue.

The R&D costs to fit a new engine was not worth it. Also the costs of making the prowler meet crash standards was not worth the investment.

So therefore the 5 year term...

LAter...

This is my first post...I tried yesterday but it took awhile to get registered....great minds think alike...your question was exactly what I was going to post. I bought a Woodward with 475 miles..3 weeks ago. These are pretty cool rides...I'm glad they ceased production.

Prowler was never going to be produced more than 5 years. It was brought to production to help boost the Plymouth brand, as Viper did for Dodge. It was also built using high-tech aluminum and parts from other Chrysler vehicles. It was experimental from the standpoint that they wanted to find out if aluminum could be the metal of the future for vehicles and using parts from other cars would cut down on tooling and costs to build the vehicles.

Unfortunately, when Daimler came in, they did not understand Prowler (I don't think Germany had a Hot Rod culture...lol!) so they saw no benefit to keeping it beyond its 5 years. There were also issues with the upcoming emission standards.

I'm glad that Chrysler had the vision to produce it at all. I think it's the greatest car on the planet!!

See you are in Fulton. We are in Marshall. Get together sometime this summer for a ride down around the Lake of the Ozarks?
