Let me first apologize IF this subject has been overly discussed...but, being a newbie...3 weeks this Wednesday, I'm curious as to what other 'stock' Prowler owners are getting. Sticker on mine reads: 17 - 23. I got 21 the first day I bought it--driving from Orlando to Montgomery, AL (475mi) but have not gotten better than 19.5 mpg since. I'll admit to having a HEAVY foot & liking to punch it from green lights, but not every time. What should I expect? Is the 19+ I'm getting normal or should I be getting better? Thanks in advance, and again, please forgive a newbie if everyone is sick-to-death of replying to this subject! *K* |

Ken - First, WELCOME to the POA! If you are getting 19+ city, and launching from a few green lights,,,,then you are doing alright. One of our cats get around 19.6 mpg city,,,the other around 20.9 city. Out on the road, I've get between 22.5 to 25.0 mpg. Hope that answers your question. We enjoy the newbie questions, so don't be timid about asking them anytime. ------------------

Thanx Alley Cat! I am gun-shy about being a newbie here because I used to be a seasoned member of a Harley AND a GoldWing board...and I KNOW how some veterans get annoyed with some of the newbie's questions! Thanx for making me feel not quite as ignorant as I otherwise could be made to feel. In my defense, I have read many articles about the facts of Prowlers, HP diff betwixt '97 and the remaining years, how no '98's were produced, etc. But I'm still a newbie and can learn more! Actually, the mileage cited is a cross between city/hwy driving...most of it 65-70MPH. Again thank you & all who have a lil patience with what might seem a stupid question--and of course I didn't buy it to get wonderful mileage...had a Hog & a Wing for that...but still useful info to know/pass on to others who may [will] ask me! Ciao 4 now! Wife's an Iraqi vet; I'm a Viet Nam vet |

Ken, this will be more like the Goldwing site than the Harley Site, I would think. There were a few flame throwers on the GWRRA but they were the minority. We have a few but they don't last too long, usually. The key to being shy and still getting the info is use the search button. It is on every page. Once you figure out how to use it, you will love it. I have been here over 4 years and still use the seach feature. If we could get a "block A/C" feature, I would use that even more often. lol. |

Ken & Vera..........Congratulations on your new cat and welcome to POA. We don't mind newbie questions......we were all newbies at one time!!! This is a great club with the best people you'll find. Mileage varies with driving conditions (lead foot, etc. lol!) but it sounds about right. I guess that I love driving my cats so much, I don't really keep track of the gas mileage! ------------------ Classic/Beautiful - I'm referring to the Cat of course! |

Even with gears and stroker motor I average about 19 MPG in my daily commuting. The mileage on the road pulling the trailer stays about the same and goes up to 20 - 21 on the road without the trailer. |

I never really pay attention to mileage cause the car is just way too much fun,but I guess around 19 or 20 sounds right. Think about it,could be worse-you could be in Canada paying over $4 a gallon or in Europe where it's probably double that! Mind you we did have a price drop just recently, must be because of the Canada event... ------------------ |

Ken & Vera. Congrats on your acquisition & Welcome to the POA. Not sure exact year I first saw Prowler (95, 96, 97?). But, whenever that was is when I decided I wanted one. It took a couple of years before I was able to buy one (June 1999). Not exactly sure what attracted me to it. The retro style, hot rod look, the uniquness, convertible, or some combination. Anyway, it was a done deal the moment I saw it & never looked back.... ------------------ |
