...out of curiosity...how can I decipher my VIN # to tell just what number my Kat was off the assembly line in 97? I thought I had seen a thread that would help me out on this fantastic site but I can't seem to find it. Can anyone give me a hand?
Thanks once again and I hope you all have a great week!

Thank you "Alley Cat"...you make it sound simple. What a coincidence...the original owner of my Purple Kat is from AZ.
Have a great day everyone!

2Hip - No, it will not make sense. The Prowler was built on a line next to the Viper line, and numbers were mixed according to production runs. Numbers at the end of the VIN# are random, and are only known to DC. Since yours is a 1997, I'm thinking there must be a way to determine your build #, but I don't know the answer. Maybe Bob Longstreth can help you with this - email CJ and ask for their assistance. Hope that helps!

My understanding is that the numbers used were continued when they switched to building Vipers and then switched back to Prowlers so the numbers are not in sequence for just Prowlers. The plant bulit both cars.

This question has come up numerous times. Even at the the tours of the plant. These numbers were randomly assigned and are not a true indication of the build seqeunce. Same with the numbers on the Woodwards and BVlack Ties numbered by DR Rue. He just numbered them as he pin striped them in an holding area( a bunch of Kats parked in a large area) not according to when they came off the line. So Woodward number 001 may not really be the first Woodward built and so on.

When I bought my 97, I asked the dealer if there was a way to find out what build number mine was. He told me he didn't know, but to let him make a few calls. I gave him my VIN# knowing he would probably need it, (which he did) and in 15 minutes had called me back with the info. I then asked for, and got it in writing. He had called the factory and they looked up my VIN # and that told them the build number. Straight from the factory.

Yeah, either that or they lied to you and got you off their back. lol.
The Prowlers going down the line were not even in order. In other words, the last six could be 765231 and it may have been assembled AFTER 765233. Since there were no options to worry about, all the cars were exactly the same so they did not have to worry about following the build orders.
That is what I understand it to be, but I may have been misled, also. The build date with the time would be a much better and more reliable indicator.

Thanks again everyone for taking the time to reply with your advice. It doesn't sound as if finding the "build number" will be an easy task. Have a great day!

Alley Cat...you're right. I'm definitely "enjoying the ride". Just curious as to the build number...that's all.

I think several people would be interested if you are able to find a "build" number. I can't recall anyone ever getting a definitive number.

Some have documented owning the last Plymouth (Orange) Prowler, the last production (Candy) and last Prowler (Hi Voltage Blue) - all now in the Krehel Prowler Museum (where they should be ) and I have heard of the first 97 Prowler to be sold to the public being documented.

Good luck on finding the info you seek. Mine will never be stock again, nor even close to being a collector's dream car with over 80,000 miles on it now, so that won't really be important on my currect Prowler.

Marty,
Thanks for the encouraging words. It is just a curiosity factor for me on the build number. You have over 80,000 miles on your Cat...how cool is that! I do the same with mine when the weather is nice. I have had it for just over a month and I have already racked up over 1,000 miles on it. Some want to collect...I like you...want to drive.
Goodnight everyone!
Brian
