Anybody ever cut open a stock muffler? I was wondering how many baffles are in the center chamber. Right now I am running straight exhaust (with the resonators to tone it down). Is the Borla the way to go? Anyone try anything different. I'd love to here some different setups before settling on one. ------------------ |

Someone had told me that they cut open a stocker and modified it. The claim was that it sounded as good as the Borla. Sorry--no details as to what was done except that the end was cut off and the innards were modded. What have you got to lose? You can get a stock muffler cheap to fool around with. |

MD Prowler, this might be interesting for you - another alternative, the SSS muffler that Jay Harris sells (Shimmers Co.) http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum9/HTML/001582.html |

The SSS muffler works extremely well for a stock engine. If you are going to enhance the engine the first thing to do is to change out the finial drive chain and gears in the trans. and that changes the rpm at road speed(Prowler-pro in Grand Junction, Co.) At 70 mph with stock gears your doing about 2050 rpm and with the quick gears your at 3000 rpm. This will take the disables perhaps a bit high for some people with the SSS muffler but it is somewhat subjective. Some people don't mind it while others can't stand it. If you hop the engine you will want to go to Prowler-Pro's header system to give you the MAX. flow. He's really got it figured out correctly. These two things will bring the horsepower from 177 to about 196 at the ground thru the transaxle.(stated hp. for the eng. is 253 but that's at the "flywheel") That's a huge bang for your bucks, and the very first things to do to make a kat go fast. It also doesn't stress the engine or drive train. The muffler fits perfectly to the existing stock system. When you put the header sys. in you will need to have a good muffler shop make a very small adt. to go from the end of his sys. to the muffler your using. Any good shop can make this in just a few minutes inexpensively. These are basic steps to make it go but stay conservative. Hope I helped, Obi-Wan |
