Looked at a 2001 Mulholland today with 14000 miles on it. A couple of questions. The exhaust noise was very loud in the cabin with the top up or down. Is this normal or was the exhaust modified? The pin stripping was not signed. The Kat rattled worse than a corvette. The bumpers were removed and there were 2 lights taped inside the grill for the turn signals. Is this normal and to be expected or is this just a bad specimen?
Thanks in advance for any comments.

Are you sure about the pinstripe???

It's very hard to see the signature.

It should be on the center part of the rear deck lid.

The exhaust can be loud inside the cabin, but mainly around 3000 rpm. At idle it shouldn't be that loud.

Squeeks and rattles are normal, the prowler does have a lot of chassis flex.

As far as the bumpers go, you can correct the appearance issue with a light kit from several of our members here that sell them.

mikee-

I agree with all of Ron's (01Prowler) responses.

I would add:
The exhaust system may have been modified. I know many of us, me included, want an exhaust system louder/deeper than the stock exhaust.
The turn signal modification may be OK or may just need securing better.
The rattles may be typical or excessive. These cars do ride a little rough so having an occassional rattle that needs fixing is common.

These things may be typical or this may be an abused Kat. I would get it inspected or better yet see if a POA member in your area could see the Kat & tell you if the squeeks/rattles were above the norm.

Thanks all for the fast reply. I think this Kat may have been abused. In the center of the stripe in the center of the trunk lid there is a bubbling in the stripe where it should be signed. Also the stripe is raised instead of a constant smooth flow. Perhaps a repaint. It is on a car lot in Camarillo, Ca.. Asking $38K (way to much) I was not planing on buying this one but since I haven't driven one with this many miles (ones I have looked at were all low mile Kats) I just wanted to satisfy myself that this is not your normal Kat with this type of mileage.
With this all said and done my search continues.

There was one here in Texas that the Dealer backed into a pole and smashed the trunklid. When he replaced it, there was no signature in the pinstripe. It didn't have that many miles, so I don't know if this is the same one. It wasn't abused as much as it was neglected. It sat outside for two years with no waxing or detailing. looked pretty bad before they shipped it out somewhere a couple of months ago.

I've had my Mulholland for almost 2 years and never knew there was a signature there! That's awesome.

Guys,

I do NOT believe Mulhollands were ever signed! The Woodward (red / black) and the Black Tie (black / silver) were the only ones signed. So, the missing signature does not indicate anything in my opinion, as it was never there to start with.

There are many Prowlers available that are NOT on this site, or ebay. Go to Autotrader.com and take a look as I always see many listed in there. Additionally you can ask C.J. (who posts always on this site) for a current listing of NEW Prowlers still at dealers around the country.

Prowlrman - This has been discussed a lot in the past!
You said this same thing in a post on 10/21/03, then said you stood corrected on 10/22/03, saying that the Mulhollands were signed, just not numbered! What's the deal?

The Mulhollands were signed, as mine is also, they were not numbered. Come over and look, I will show it to you. Every other Mulholland I have looked at has the signature.

Mikee, if it's not there, then it probably has been repainted.

I would not describe our Kat either with the top up or down as very loud and I have a Borla which is louder than stock. While I cannot state emphatically that our Kat has zero rattles I would not describe it as bad or mumerous. If someone would just tape signal lights inside the grille to me that indicates what kind of care they would give the car. Even at 30K I think I would walk away fast.

The signature on the Mulholland is located in the center of the decklid. It looks like chicken scratch and unless you know it is a signature can be mistaken for a paint defect.

More rattles than a Corvette? No signature in the pinstripe? Taped in turn signal lights? I'd either expect more previous owner detail on this car,,,,OR just walk away and forget about this one. JMO

Mikee,
If there anyway I can be of help in checking out any local KATS please give me a holler, I am just over the hill. If you want someone to tag along let me know. I have had my car for 4 1/2 years and would be more than willing to give you my opinion on any local cars you find.
I will check with one of the local Prowler owners that lives in Thousand Oaks, I think he is selling his 1999/2000 Black.
There are few of us that get togehter in Newbury Park on Saturdays at the weekly car show.
I will get back to you some time Sunday and let you know what the outcome is.
You may want to stop on by and introduce yourself. Always looking forward to meeting a fellow Kat lover.
Dan.

The stock muffler is triangular in shape. Two pipes in the front of one muffler and two pipes exiting the one muffler.

Just checked in after working all weekend...I am sorry if I caused any confusion and will not forget next time that Mulhollands ARE signed but NOT numbered. I stand corrected. Must be old age setting in and I am glad that someone keeps track of my mistakes, since I can't seem to do that on my own!
