I am driving my Prowler to the Texas Stampede. Without the luxury of a car hauler or a trailer I was wondering what the experienced traveler would recommend for a tool kit or parts to take along. My thoughts:
1) Transmission sensors
2) Tire repair/plug kit.
3) Air compressor powered by car.
4) Air pressure gauge.
5) Small tool kit I got at Sears. It has an assortment of sockets and wrenches. The case is about the size of a large book.
6) ?

Other thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Radar Dectector, Sunscreen, Max Care Warranty Card and a cell phone to call them if anything breaks.

Please don't forget to take a comb for Alley Cat and some wax for Ed

First thing to pack is the confidence that nothing is going to go wrong with the Kat! Then follow Larry's advise.

We have taken our to both Colorado and Tennessee and no problem other than turning 50,000 miles in Tenn.

Try to hook up with someone else and travel together. We are leaving Saturday am and will drive to about Texarkana then about 5 hours or so into Austin on Sunday.

Dale - I just drove Louisville to Dallas last night. It's 10 hours to Texarkana. So should be just slightly more from Lexington assuming you'll take BluegrassParkway to E town and then head South.

Sounds like you've got a good start on the road kit. I would also suggest: 1.Windschield spray and good paper towels to really clean the glass. 2.Make sure your tools are metric-that's what the whole car uses. 3.Shop towels-just a few along with a small container of hand cleaner(you don't want to mess up the steering wheel if your hands are dirty)4. I am going out on a limb here-I do recommend an OBTII unit. There available at most auto stores for about 90.oo now. They are easy to use and can really shed some light on problems that CAN happened on modern cars. You can use it on ANY car made after 1996-'cus there all the same after that. 5. A good flashlight with geed(new) batteries. These are MY min's. on any trip. Hope this helps. Obi-Wan

After Cruising the Coast 2002 I believe the best thing to take along on a road trip is Bob & CJ Longstreth. They come complete with smiles, mechanical knowledge, GPS and usually a trailer! What more could you ask for???? Sometimes for insurance they will bring Jerry (a Prowler engineer) and Marcia with them also.

Dale, Make sure you take a deep socket for the sensors. Good sunglasses and a hat, chapstick since you will be smiling all week and the wind will dry out your lips.
I would join you all but you said early and that is too early for me, whatever time that is. lol
Thanks for remembering me, Larry L. lol

I was going to recommend that but I'm not sure how much good it would do you without a service manual, as for the price I think to get a good OBDII code scanner you'll be looking at more like $150 http://www.sunpro.com/cgi-bin/web_store.cgi?page=cp9135.htm&cart_id=7002594_6849 . A good OBDII system tester runs close to $400 http://www.sunpro.com/cgi-bin/web_store.cgi?page=km9615.htm&cart_id=1439179_6887 ( this is the one I have ).

blubyu - It takes a 1" deep socket to remove a tranny sensor. I carry a Gorilla breaking bar to remove lugnuts, if needed, so I bought a deep 1" socket to fit on the breaking bar. Looks like you got most everything else covered. Two-way radio with extra batteries.

Larry Lord - I'm bringing along a set of ear plugs,,,,,,incase I draw the hotel room next to your honeymoon suite. I can't sleep at night if your going to have that headboard bouncing off the commom wall

AC's travel tool pack,,,,,minus his tire gauge.

One breaking bar
Lugnut sockets
1" deep socket for sensor changing
One input and one output tranny sensors
Small sockets for misc
Fuses
Rubber or latex gloves
Popsicle stick for center cap removal
10 pack of Trogans
Tire gauge
Extra batteries for two-way radio

All fits in a Craftsmen narrow plastic box that sits in the bottom of the cat trunk between the hinges. Takes up very little room.

In my car at all times...

tire plug kit
portable air compressor
10mm wrench...(fits most things that would be trouble)
cable ties (in case anything starts flapping)
epoxy-resin hardener kit (in case anything falls off...LOL)
quality tire guage
Mag Light

The tranny sensors seems a bit excessive though I know the recent threads concerning them. It seems in a pinch, you can clean off the sensor and it's good again.

AC...the tranny sensors fouling is THAT common?

Is there a certain amount of miles where they start acting up?
