.....hectic day all day long....lots going on....day winds down to a close and I get a call from my wife about 3pm....she is at one of her banks branches about 30 miles from home and her 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited is dead as hell.....since the car had been driven several hundred miles the last few days, I figure the battery is not the problem.....some of her co workers try to jump the Jeep to no avail.... ....I call the local dealer down the street and they tell me to call Roadside Assistance....duhhh, why didn't I think of that.....called them, talked to a real nice young lady after about 20 minutes on hold.....she told me to have my wife leave the keys in the floor of the Jeep and there would be a tow truck dispatched within the hour....in the meantime my wife waited.....the tow truck company finally called her on her cell phone(she was already part of the way home) and told her they would have to get the keys from her "in person" and it might be as long as 2 hours, which meant she would have to wait in a very deserted place way after dark by herself....it was getting dark by now so she had no choice but to go back and get the keys, hitch a ride home, and leave the Jeep in another town.......DC told me they only tow cars 20 miles, the dealer is 28 miles....NO WAY IN HELL would DC authorize the car to come to New Castle....it had to go to a town that was even further away from home than it already was....it would have been over 40 miles from us at that point, and they wanted us to go back tomorrow and wait for another 2 hours to hand the driver the keys "in person"....I called DC again to see what the next step was since she wouldn't wait another few hours because the tow truck driver wanted the keys "in person"....he couldn't get the keys out of the Jeep by himself for "insurance reasons".....I called a local tow company, they are getting the Jeep tomorrow on a flatbed and delivering it to the dealership the way DC should have done without being Jerked aroung for several hours.....The dealer and the tow truck operator both told me DC will reimburse me for the tow....if so, why all the BULL$HIT over the 20 mile limit ???? the whole thing was frustrating.....all the deals are great till you need them.....then there is the fine print |

I've used it once too and it was a horrible experience. A million unimportant questions - just send the guy asap!!!! And if the extra 5 miles aren't covered, I'll pay - just send the guy!!!!!!!!!1 |

Man that would suck my wife would have told me to sell the car if that would have been her. I had only one experience with DC and towing my PT they said 15 minutes for a tow truck he was there in around 17 minutes was a great experience, but with DC warranty thats another question with me. PK |

I have had one experience with them and it worked out well. A lot better than the one experience I had AAA. |

Waiting on a tow truck now. Car won't start, tried to jump it and got nothing. Might have bad battery cable or ground problem. Dealer replaced positve cable (under warranty) and battery (I paid for) in August. They called tow truck at 10:30 - that was 1:50 minutes ago. Maybe not dealer's fault as they use outside towing company. Waiting for a phone call now to tell me how much longer. I was told if problem is covered by MaxCare extended warranty they will pay tow bill. I also know that they will not cover anything in my powertrain due to nitrous install and engine rebuild, but I am assuming any electrical problem should be covered. Marty |

Ah, yes. Reminds me of a classic post: http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000716.html quote:Originally posted by GRROWL: Here's my experience: . . . . Towing service finally called and said roll back truck was on its way. The driver had towed a Prowler to the dealership one other time and took care not to scrape the front end (The same front end that has been sprayed black at least four times!) Now just waiting to hear from dealer. This message has been edited by Marty Usher on 02-05-2004 at 09:12 PM |

On the good side...several years ago my wife got stranded outside the Lincoln Tunnel in NJ...managed to roll into a gas station where no one spoke english and had no service. She called DC (Chrysler then) and was picked up in less than an hour by flatbed. They took the LHS to our selling dealer in Woodbridge (just under fifty miles) and no charge for towing. Water pump fried. Engine OK Car back the next day. No hassle what-so-ever from tow company or Chrysler. Maybe she was just lucky? |

Finally got the kat back today and was able to do donuts on the slushy parking lot at the office! They had to replace the negative battery cable and the end of the positive cable. Of course it was not covered by Max Care extended warranty. Since they had just replaced battery and positive cable last fall I was not charged for the positive cable end or for the tow to the dealer. Still cost almost $200.00. I guess I should just be gald to have it back. ------------------ |

The roadside assistance part of Chrysler's MaxCare extended warranty took care of my towing charges. Overall, this has been the only extended warranty that I have ever thought was of more value than then the $$$$ spent. Having a high mileage, daily driven Prowler contributes to that. THe service part of the deal is really up to the individual dealer and the towing services they use. I hate to wait, but I hate to wait & pay even more! |
