My sister's family lives on Lake Travis in Lakeway so we end up staying at the Lakeway Inn Resort something like 12-15 times a year. So, I thought I'd give those attending some perspective of the place. The hotel is gorgeous. It has incredible views of the lake. There is a marina attached right next to the hotel and if you bring a boat, you can slip it there for something like $15 a night (this was the price I was quoted at the height of Summer activity last year). The hotel has a boat ramp to launch and retreive you vessel. You can keep your trailer/boat right there at the hotel. At the marina, there is a water taxi that comes about every 1/2 hour and will take you to a waterfront restaurant across the lake. The lake itself is huge. Something like 66 miles long. There are two pools there. Both are nice. They really do accept dogs there too. We bring a 55 lbs Chow-Chow and there is no problem. Just bring a cage to keep them in if you are leaving them there and going out for the day. Lakeway is very hilly and expect to see your fair share of wild deer morning, noon, and night. There is plenty to do in Lakeway and there is a vineyard (I forget the name) within a mile or two that you can visit. One thing to really remember, the speeds in Lakeway are very slow (something like 20mph). Do not attempt to go over that. Lakeway cops are notorious for ticketing and they are all over the place. It's tough with all the hills to keep a constant speed but, they do ticket folks, and alot! If you want more info on the area and the hotel, I can get it from my sister. |

Trey - thanks for the prospective. Question: Are you attending this event? |

quote: No, I am prowlerless these days, the two little ones would not want to attend, and I will be out of the state on business for part of it anyway. Should be alot of fun though. Lakeway is very scenic. If you get time, take a tour of some of the million dollar new/used homes for sale around there. Lots of Dellionaires out that way. Or go over and take a look at the dam. Another thing that is fun, at another marina/restaurant (I think Iguana's) you can rent a houseboat repleat with a second floor slide into the lake for the day. One should hold 20-30 folks, has ac and refrigerator, tv, etc. Take it out into the middle of the lake, drop the anchor, and watch the sun go down..... Lots of good eatting places but, definitely take the boat ride across the lake at night for dinner. The place is completely outdoors, at water level, with fun atmosphere. |

Thanks Cnote. Another thing, Lakeway is loaded with deer. Expect to see herds (?) on golf courses, by the side of the road, in folks front yards, etc. You will see them morning, noon, and night. Literally, all over the place. The kids love em and me and the wife even get a kick out of watching them too but, they are everywhere. Getting to Lakeway Inn, you'll be driving through the heart of Lakeway subdivisions and golf course so you will see plenty of deer and cops. Drive carefully!!!!! |

A deer could do serious damage to any car especially a Prowler |

One reason why the wife doesnt like driving the Kat at night up here either, Rich.... they're all over. We took one out last year... with the pickup truck, so that wasnt too bad... but the images of deer/prowler come to mind and rarely look pretty.... One of life's risks |

Can we shoot the deer? RealRod Bob and I will skin and gut it out, and Ed and Marty can roast it for one of the event's nightly dinners. We'll have the head mounted for Kozican. It tastes like chicken, no kiddin'. |

AC, I just need the horns so make sure you hit a buck. I think the horn will look great on the hood. I sold the Caddy with the steer horns on the hood for the Prowler. Kindof miss the look....... |

quote: Actually, you are partially correct. The city (last year) enacted a law whereby they hired sharpshooters to troll the golf courses after midnight to thin the herd, so to speak. We are talking ALOT of deers here folks. PETA and some other groups raised alot of objections to this but, in previous yeras, they showed that trying to capture them and transport them elsewhere not only cost alot more but, most died in the transport or new location. For awhile there, it was kinda sounded like Compton on a Saturday night..... |

quote: Actually. If you keep some of the horn and grind it into a fine powder, then add some to your food you will love the results. The Chinese have been doing this for years. (Or is that Rhino horn?) Oh well, it might be worth a try. |

PETA ------ I don't pay any attention to that group. They are the ones who stand outside of high income area elementary schools with pamphlets to give kids that say: "Your mother wears fur coats,,,,,,she kills little animals"
