Does anyone have an idea what a 2001 black tie with 25000 miles is worth as a trade in?

Jerry, it probably depends on what you are buying. If you are buying a $ 200,000 automobile they will inflate what they tell you they are giving you. If it is a $ 20,000 minivan, the price would be a lot less, I am sure. The market seems to be very soft for Prowlers right now, unfortunately. You could probably expect $ 27,000 to $ 31,000 selling it outright, but that is just MY opinion. I am sure there will be others to post giving a different opinion. It is one of only 161 (?) made so it is fairly rare and if you find the right buyer you may do a little better. Again, that is only my guess. Good luck.

You always will get beat up by the dealer witha trade in, try classified on this site, should be worth 3-4k more selling privately. I would say they would give you 25k.

Ed is right. One thing to consider, if trading it in, the best you can hope to get is something below wholesale for it.

Most dealers, even if they sell that particular car, will wholesale it. For instance, just because you are trading a fairly new Porsche in at a Porsche dealer, don't assume they will keep it. Chances are, they will wholesale it. Same is true with your car.

Keep in mind two, with wholesaling, you are paying at least two commissions. One for the used car manager and the other for the wholesaler. Depending on how greedy they are, you could get offered just about nothing for your car.
For instance, say a wholesaler tells the used car manager, he'll give $23K for the car. The manager will then tell you its worth $20K. He then makes $3K of the paper trade.
Some are greedier then others so at the very least, shop around.

Another thing is that while it was touted as "rare" and "limited" and "low numbered" when you bought it, when time to trade it in, that will mean absolutely nothing to these guys.

Bottom line is you will probably be very disappointed in what is offered.

IMO, everyone above is right on the money with their assessments. It may be best not to get your sights set on a mid-$30's price for your car and then be disappointed with the real offers. Hopefully you are either free and clear on the title, or your payoff is somewhere below the mid $20's. If you are really interested in selling, post it for $27k - $30k and you are likely to get a real buyer. Watch some of the no-reserve Prowlers on eBay to see what the market is like.

And I also agree, while the Black Tie is limited in production and a great looking car, dealers now couldn't care less. The color is a buyer's personal preference and if they are looking for a blue, orange, red, etc... that is where they will spend their money.

No Reserve #1

No reserve #2

No reserve #3

Good luck with your sale if you do it. Post it here first as there are many people lurking around here looking for a nice car.

Unless a car is far above excellent condition, low mileage, and in high demand,,,,most dealers are reluctant to put into your trade,,, 75 to 80% of it's low wholesale value. They are in business to make money and if they have to sit on it for awhile,,,they want to own it right. JMO

Jerry the folks above were really on the money. If you can wait until the weather breaks in your area then sell. A soft top should bring more in the spring.

The back tie means very little to the dealer unless he has it in inventory. lol Good Luck!
